Profile Image Instructions

Your profile image will appear when others are viewing your profile, when posting to the Message Board and also in the gallery.  An example profile image appears below:

How to set up your profile image.

Note: Profile images should be 65 pixels wide by 75 pixels high.  Images that are larger than this may take a longer to load.  We recommend that you resize and/or crop your image to this size before you upload it to a web host.  You may do this by opening the image in MS Paint or another image editing program such as Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

To set up a profile image you will need to find an image to use for your profile image.  This may be a personal photograph, an icon or artwork of some sort.  Once you have located a profile image you will find that it falls into one of two categories:

1. The image is hosted online.  This means that, while browsing the web you found this image and that you can right-click on the image and choose "properties" to see the image details.  In the Image Detail view you will find the "URL" of the image.  This url should begin with "http://".  If your image does not fit this description please see the other possibility (#2, below).
   
   To use this image, simply copy the url of the image and paste it into the "Profile Image URL" field located in the My Account section here at SG:
   
   
   Be sure to click the "Save" button to the right of the "Profile Image URL" field to save any changes you make.

2. The image is located on your own computer and is not hosted online.  This means that the image is saved to your local hard disk drive and that it cannot be seen by others on the Internet.  In order to use this type of image as your profile image, you must "host" your image on the Internet.  A few websites where you can "host" your image are listed below:

   Follow the directions at the site and upload your photo from your pc to the hosting website.  The site will give your photo its own "http://" address that you then, copy and paste into the "Profile Image ULR" field found at the My Account section here at SG:
   
   
   Be sure to click the "Save" button to the right of the "Profile Image URL" field to save any changes you make.
