Meet Laura (aka Scrappinchic)

Tell us about your family:
One husband, two kids, two cats... my husband and I are both teachers, the kids are in middle school and kindergarten, and the cats pretty much run everything. 

How long have you been a scrapbooking and what got you started?
I've been scrapbooking for about five years... I started when I was looking at a photo and didn't recognize my neighbor's child, because they change so much through the years. I decided then it was time to record our family's history. 

What inspires you?

I take inspiration from the photos... it could be the colors, the background stories behind the photo.


How do your family and friends feel about your scrapbooking?
They all have a different view... my son loves the pages I create, Haley thinks she wants to use all my paints, and my husband credits me with finding my hidden creativity... all the friends who scrapbook think it's totally normal... those who don't think it's a ridiculous amount of time spent playing with pictures!

How did you find A Cherry on Top?
I was Googling for a specific product, and ACOT was one of the hits... I liked the layout of the site and started ordering... I "tested the waters" on the message board, and the rest, as they say...

How long have you been a part of the ACOT community?
I don't really know... I remember one of my first weekends there was a snowball fight, and I didn't really understand why I kept getting hit!

Do you have a favorite product line?
I love Doddlebug! I also like Bo Bunny and KI Memories as a close 2nd and 3rd.

What is a favorite technique that you like to use?
I didn't realize it was a technique until Laura Fiore's "Out of the Box Challenge", but I cut the patterns out of pattern paper. 

When and where do you create your layouts?
Mostly on the weekends in my newly remodeled scrap room (it's half a room, but the computer doesn't mind sharing).

What is a favoite layout of yours and why?

My favorite layout is the painted jaguar, because it incorporates my favorite products... glitter, bling, frills, and chipboard.


How would you define your style?
I don't... I buy products that I think go with the phots I take and I end up using them... there are a few techniques I use more often than others.

Do you have any tips to share for saving time, organizing or getting started?
Ha!! You're implying here that I'm organized! I guess the best tip is to buy what you need to scrap the photos you have, not what you think you'll need for photos you might take. 

What is your ultimate goal in scrapbooking?
One of these days I hope to get Christmas '04 down! Right now my short-term goal is to scrap 50 photos before I buy any more supplies.

Any other hobbies?
Other than the occasional card or altered project, I don't really have any other hobbies. I spend a lot of time at the beach and the pool, but I'm not sure you call that a hobby... I'm not one of those 'artistic' photographers, so that isn't really a hobby. I guess I'm just a scrapper.
