Meet Em/emarie803

May's Featured Guest

Please join me in welcoming our featured guest for the month of May- Em/emarie803.  I am sure you have seen some of her awesome creations in the gallery or chatted with her on the message board.  If you havent' already, take a peek at her fantastic gallery.  Here is a recent photo of her:

Tell us about your family.

I am divorced, and currently dating a really wonderful guy named Callahan (Cal for short). We've been dating for almost a year and a half now.  I have no kids, but he has a son, Holden (aka Munchkin), who's 5.

How long have you been scrapbooking and what got you started?

I started scrapbooking in 2002. My now ex-MIL got me started by taking me to the LSS and buying me the tools to start my obsession (deco scissors and tons of stickers LOL). I scrapped our trip to Vegas and was immediately hooked!

What inspires you?

I have found that my inspiration changes daily. Sometimes I am inspired by textures, sometimes by colors. Sometimes it is by an event or a feeling. I have a notebook that I fill with ideas-color combos, patterns, ads that would make good LOs, etc. When I get stumped (or my mojo goes on a long vacation without me...), I flip through my book or the gallery here.

How do your family and friends feel about your scrapbooking?

My Bf so didn't get it when we first started dating, but he caught on quick! Now, he even offers to take me to Archiver's, knows what kind of adhesive to buy, and gives me all sorts of scrapping time! That, and he'll pose for random photos and take some of me so that I can be in my own scrapbooks. My parents and my sister love the cards I make for them (my sis even says I should sell my cards). And last Christmas, when my parents opened the album I did of their wedding, my dad almost started to cry!

How did you find A Cherry on Top?

I needed specific stickers for a page I was doing from our Vegas trip and the LSS didn't have anything close. So I hit the internet, and got sucked into the shop here!

How long have you been a part of the ACOT community?

I started posting on the message board Sept 2005 for the fall crop. I was welcomed by a lot of people and stuck around after the crop to see what it was all about ( I was a message board virgin ). Went missing for awhile because life got really hectic, came back in 2007, and have been here ever since!

How did you pick your screen name?

I just used part of my email address since it was easy to remember. Very original, I know LOL!

Do you have a favorite manufacturer/product line?

I don't know that I have one manufacturer that I go back to all the time, except Prima for flowers! I like Making Memories, Fancy Pants, and Little Yellow Bicycle lines to name a few.

What scrapbooking item can’t you live without?

Definitely Flowers! I put them on most of my pages, and my bf knows that a bottle or 2 of Primas is sometimes just as good as a bouquet of real flowers! (Told you I've got him trained!)

What is a favorite technique that you like to use?

When and where do you create your layouts?

I have half of the basement that is mine for scrapbooking. All my supplies are down there, but I didn't have a table, so I would bring everything upstairs and scrap in my living room in front of the TV. I just found a cool table that I can use to scrap on at a flea market a couple weeks ago, so now, I am re-organizing my scrap space to make room for it!

What is a favorite layout of yours and why?

This is one of my favorite LOs that I have done. It was my first time playing with Bisous, and I love how everything just fell together, including my journaling! And this is one of my current favorite photos and I love how the Bisous and extra embellishments work with it!

How would you define your style?

I don't know that I have a set style. A lot of my LOs have many photos on them. I used to be really bad about having to scrap ALL my photos. Now, I can narrow down which ones I use, but it is not uncommon to see lots of photos and 2 page LOs.

What is your ultimate goal in scrapbooking?

To help tell the stories of my life so that future generations know who the people are, what was going on, and what year it was. I have so many photos taken during my childhood that aren't dated and I can't remember some of the people in them.

Any other hobbies?

I am a HUGE hockey fan! Love my hometown Avs almost as I love my Sharks (though they choke every year in the playoffs and disappoint- I STILL love them!) Over the last few years I've really gotten into lacrosse too! Denver, being the sports-crazy town that it is, has both an indoor pro team (the Mammoth) and an outdoor pro team (the Outlaw). I go to as many games as I can for both teams, and watch the away games on TV. I have no clue where my love of hockey and lacrosse came from. My family is so not sports fans of any type. They just laugh at me and hope I stop talking when I get going on either sport! I also love rollercoaster's, the theatre, music (especially rock), hiking, and dabble in crochet.

Thanks so much, Em , for letting us feature you as our guest for May.
