Digi-Photo Collages

Can you say extraction!!

Collage work in the Digital World

Did you know the term "collage" comes from the French term "coller" meaning glue?  Well, we don't really use glue in digital scrapbooking, but we can still create awe-inspiring layouts using the same principles behind original collage work.  The Creative Team did exactly this in the following layouts using a range of techniques from stacking to extracting and blending to erasing.  Hope you are inspired to try your own personal collage!!

Tropical Paradise by BeatrizS [June Digi Guest CT]

Beatriz used no less than 7 extractions in this amazing layout of Havana, Cuba.  Her method of extraction was the lasso tool in Photoshop 7.

Now and Forever by Keling [Sara]

Sara used an "extraction" filter from Photoshop to pull out these beautiful pictures of her sister's wedding.

The World Was Made For Little Boys by davsar [Sarah]

Sarah used a range of layers modes and high pass filters in GIMP to merge these sweet boy pictures together.

Graduation! by mayerkt [Karin]

Bow to the queen of extraction!  Karin extracted her photos using the lasso tool in Photoshop and then smoothing the edges.  Wow, that is a lot of photos!

Sun Sand Smiles by Smiley-Scrap8 [Ronny]

Ronny used the Hard Light blending mode and the eraser tool in Photoshop CS3 to complete the extractions for her layout of her children playing on the beach.

It's A Jungle Out There by FairyMouseMom [Egle]

Egle extracted photos of the animals from her visit to the zoo and snuggled them together on her page. She says this page will make a great title page for additional layouts of her zoo trip.

Lovely Lorikeets by MamaK321 [Kristianne]

Kristi also created a layout from a recent trip to the zoo and this one is for the birds! She extracted a number of single shots using the Quick Selection Tool in PSE7, and clustered the birds together as if they were all in the same tree. How many birds can you count?

If you want to get more details of how a layout was created click on the title and it will take you to the original entry and the artist's notes.  Or you can always ask the CT member personally!  Hope you had fun with this week's digital reveal.

Here are a few of the products used in the layouts above:
