Cool colors in nature are calming and recede into the background. Think of a beautiful blue lake or a purple mountain topped with snow, these images give us a sense of peace. The great thing about using cool colors in our layouts is that they help the photo pop forward making it the focus, especially when the photo includes warm colors (reds, oranges, yellows).
On the color wheel above those colors ranging from green to red purple are cool colors. Check out these layouts by the digi ct to see how they used cool colors in there layouts.
Laura says "Our reveal this week was to use cool colors, and what could be cooler than Niagara Falls? My hubby and I just recently took a trip to Canada, where we saw the splendor of the Falls up close and personal on the Maid of the Mist boat tour. We were definitely cooled in the spray!"

Kristi's layout of her daughter is a perfect example of how cool colors can help the photo pop, especially when the photo is warm. The first thing you see when you look at the layout is the beautiful face. Her peach skin and brown hair stands out on the background of soft blues and purples, even with some of the elements overlapping the photo.

Sara says "It's easy for me to use cool colours, especially blues, thanks to my boys! In order to give the photo a more muted look, I duplicated it, desaturated the top layer, and then reduced the opacity, so just a hint of colour peeked through."

Amanda chose some great underwater photos to go with our cool color theme, her layout makes me cooler already. It's great how the colors are taken right from the photos so it looks like the whole layout is in the ocean.

Jenn says "This is for the Cool Colors reveal. I went with some pretty aqua colours cuz I always feel like those colours just make me feel cooler just by looking at them. :)"

Sarah says "I love that cool colors seem to coordinate with boys so well. Blue of course is perfect for a little baby boy!!"

Janell's layout of her adorable kids really says "cool summer days". With the great blue background, the waves and the tree branch above, it feels like your standing in the shade of large tree with the breeze of the ocean hitting your face. It's amazing how colors can enhance the feeling of a layout, just imagine this same layout with a yellow background.

Shannon showed her cool side with a great layout of her and a friend hanging in the pool. She makes excellent use of the Spotty Dots from SAS Designs, like bubbles rising up her layout.

While blue is the usual choice when using cool colors, Jennifer chose green for this cute layout of her nephew. These colors really work well for layout of little boys, even matching his sleeper.

Kirsty's beautiful layout of her daughters shows with a few warm elements cooler colors are great for a feminine layout too.

Ronny says "Cool colors are those on the color wheel in the blue, green and purple family. To me they are calming colors and very much found in nature. So I chose to do my layout of a peaceful family moment in nature, a walk on the beach. These photo just make smile and I think the cool color palette really adds to the calming feel."

Angie says "So its all about cool colors for this week's digi reveal and what better way to show that off than by using some pics from our summer here in WA."
