Here it is August already and that means a new Paper Guest CT here at ACOT. Once again we are having 2 Guest CT's this month. Up first is koala1966. You can learn more about Tania and see the awesome layouts she created using the new Piggy Tales Yankee Doodle Dandy line.
My name is Tania, screen name koala1966, and I live in Hot & Sunny Central Florida. I have been paper-scrapping for 10 years and digi-scrapping for 3 years; I'm addicted to both! I work full time with computers and I need the creative outlet that scrapbooking allows in order to unwind. I was blessed to discover my true love in high school and we've been together for 19 years; we celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary in July. My husband and I love to travel and our vacations are often highlighted in my scrapbook pages, along with my nieces and nephews, family and friends. When I'm not working, scrapbooking, or traveling, I love to read, research my family history, visit theme parks and watch movies. I have a user forum here at A Cherry on Top called The Movie Critic to discuss and review movies with my ACOT friends. I'm on two digital Creative Teams - one for Katie the Scrapbook Lady who sells in ACOT's digital shop and one for E-scape and Scrap. This is the first time I've been offered a paper CT spot and I'm very excited to be a guest among all the talented ladies on the ACOT Paper CT.
Name: Tania
Family members: My husband - John
Pets: None
Birthday: August 28. This Guest CT spot is the best early birthday present I could have gotten. But that shouldn’t stop anyone from giving me actual presents. Presents are good. I encourage them.
Favorite television show? Here we go – always asking about favorites, making 2nd and 3rd choices feel inferior. It’s ok Mental, Privileged, Kings, Make It Or Break It, The Listener, Eli Stone, The Closer, Saving Grace, and The Philanthropist, I still love all of you. But my favorite show right now is So You Think You Can Dance. I’m so hooked; it’s the only reality show I watch. By the way, that is not a complete list of all the shows I watched, in case you were thinking it was. But this answer was getting to long to list the rest of them.
Favorite movie? It’s so unfair to the other movies, but Titanic remains my all-time favorite film. I’m not sure how you compete with Titanic – cute boy (Leonardo DiCaprio), beautiful girl (Kate Winslet), crisis situation, heroic rescue, and true love story. Of course there are scores of other movies I love, I like to share my love of movies (and my movie opinions) in The Movie Critic user forum that I host here at ACOT.
Name 3 of your favorite candy bars: Butterfinger, Skor, and Heath, they have been my favorites for as long as I can remember.
Name 3 musical artists you enjoy: Bon Jovi, Sister Hazel, Matchbox20; I’ve seen all 3 in concert multiple times, but I’ve seen Sister Hazel in concert the most. I used to make it to all their club dates when they were within 60 miles of me. Not lately, though, these days they always seem to be in town when I’m busy.
Favorite (NSR) store to shop? Dots, they have cute clothes and cheap prices, and their jeans fit me.
Favorite (NSR) magazine publication? Redbook.
Name 2 of your favorite colors: Blue and Blue. I’m sorry, is there another color? If I could get away with it, everything would be some shade of blue. It’s really the best color. The only way it could be a better color is if it started with the letter T. Like TBlue. Teal is probably my favorite shade of blue.
Favorite thing to do with your family? Go to Disney! It’s the happiest place in the world! We always have a lot of fun at any of the Disney parks, and at the Disney miniature golf courses, and at the Disney water parks… We love Disney.
Favorite thing (non-scrap related) to do without your family? Read. I can’t have people around when I’m reading, I need peace and quiet to enter an alternate reality.
What's your favorite scrapping tool to use when scrapbooking? My Doodlebug rubon tool. I have no idea how I used rubons before they came out with that darling green tool.
Name 3 of your favorite SB companies/lines: KI Memories, We R Memory Keepers, and American Crafts. I think. Or maybe Die Cuts With a View, Doodlebug, and Making Memories. Oh, wait, EK Success, 7Gypsies, and My Minds Eye. Ugh, I’m so bad with the favorites questions.
Name 3 of your favorite embellishments to work with: Brads, rubons, and those pearls from Kaiser Craft.
What are your favorite adhesives? ThermoWeb photo squares are my favorite, but I also love Xyron for die cuts and vellum, KI Memories Gloo for acrylic, and Magic Scraps Scrappy Glue for metals and other heavy embellishments.
What is your top two fave holidays? Christmas and my birthday!
What's the one thing you must have readily available when you sit down to scrap? Light. I can’t scrap in the dark, I’m too easily injured. After light – it would be my Cutterbees. I bought the yellow pair first but when they came out with Titanium I had to get them too. I have them in pink but I drool over the blue ones every time I see them.
What would you like the ACOT members to know about you? I’m pretty sure the ACOT members already know too much about me. They won’t believe it, but I’m really a very shy and reserved person. Really.
Tania says: "I was given the “Yankee Doodle Dandy” line from Piggy Tales for my reveal. The foil papers that were available really drew me to this line and I had fun working with them. The chipboard shapes are self-adhesive."
All American Hero: "As soon as I looked at these papers I knew I had to dig up an old army picture of my grandpa. For my first layout I used a picture of my grandpa as a young military man. I loved the look of the striped foil paper so I used silver metallic pens to color the star paper to match. I used a silver metallic ink pad around the edges of the picture and frame. All the papers in this line are double-sided with a patterned paper on one side and a coordinating solid on the other which made choosing a background paper very easy."
A Few Good Men: "For my second layout I used the runner-up photo from my photo search for the first layout; it’s a picture of my grandpa and my uncle during a visit to St Petersburg, FL. I felt it was fitting because both of them were career military men and war veterans. This time I used one of the foil papers as my background and cut around some of the foil accents to slide the photo behind them. I used the rubons from this line to dress up the background further."
Kris: "For my third layout I used pictures of the Season 8 American Idol, Kris Allen, from the most recent American Idol concert, all taken by me (including the picture of his name, which appeared on the screen behind the stage). My Dad and I go to the American Idol concert every year and this year we had floor seats. I used my circle cutter to cut the circular patterns from the “town” paper, then used the “cap” foil paper to mat my pictures. Chipboard accents and rubons along with the circular cut outs dressed up my white background and I wrote directly on the journaling tag with a slick writer pen. I also used rubons to decorate the gray photo corner chipboard piece. I love how smoothly the rubons go on, with very little effort."
