For some people, designing a layout with two pages is simply the norm; for others it can pose a real challenge. Whatever the case may be, a two page layout can really enhance your design. It is the perfect way to instantly allow more space to display additional photos, or to make the photos you already have appear larger. There are many different ways to make a two pager work for you - just follow some of the tips from our creative team members. Try it on your next project, and see where doubling the fun takes you!
A design scheme used by Jennifer is to repeat the first layout on the second page for a solid, cohesive flow!

Kirsty used another clever design scheme - mirroring! Just make the 2nd page a mirror image of the first and voila - an instant amazing design reflection!

Sara notes that "When working on a double page spread, whether in paper or digital, I find that you really need to think of it as a single page, though twice as wide as you would normally do. This helps you unite the page together more easily". The following two double page layouts have definitely got flow and unity!

Another way to utilize two page layouts is to draw attention to a couple of GINORMOUS photos, and compliment with many smaller ones. This principle can be applied to one page layouts as well, but with the larger area of a 24 inch x 12 inch canvas, it really makes a strong statement!

Ronny states that "My favorite thing about double pages is the amount of photos you can add to a layout and still have room for journaling and embellishments. For this page I chose to place my photos in a grid in an effort to include as many as possible."

Janell concurs with the benefit of having more space to add lots of photos, along with added benefits! "I personally love 2 page layouts, especially when you place them in post bound books, it takes your layout from "scrapbook page" to a cohesive work of art. I also love that it's a lot easier to add all those extra photos and journal about special events."

Using two pages also allows the use of more papers and more embellishments - and they don't always have to match perfectly!! Jenn used complimentary backgrounds here to pull her two page layout together.

Egle states: "I used a template for the left side of the layout....and flipped it and changed it some to create the look for the right hand side of this layout. I kept the papers the same to create a flow to this two-page spread. For this I focused on pictures I took of the giraffes at The Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. I used my lens to my advantage and gathered some unique shots of this neat mammal."

Kristianne placed her two pages together on a 24x12" sized document so she could seamlessly arrange a cluster that spans the center of her double page spread.

About the author ...
Karin O'Brien lives with her husband Patrick (i.e. Honeybuns), her son Liam, and two kitties, Milo & Thalia, in a fabulous condo in the great city of Chicago. She traded in her Chemical Engineering Degree for the best job promotion a girl could ask for - being Mommy to Liam! Despite the lack of sleep and lack of money, she thinks life is very good right now! Karin began paper scrapping in 1999 in college, although she always seemed to make more of a mess than pages! When she moved to Mexico, the lack of a local scrap store forced her to explore digiscrapping! She started digital scrapbooking in March of 2005, and now is officially addicted and completely in love!
