On the Road Again with October Afternoon
Scrapping with the Road Map line!
I don't know about you but I seem to collect an endless supply of photos that are busy and multicolored. They're hard to scrap and no matter how much I might like them I can never really seem to find the right paper to go with them! Enter: the
Road Map line from
October Afternoon. This line is geared towards travel with its maps, road signs, and graphic lines. October Afternoon is known for coming out with bold and bright patterns and this line is no exception. Which is why it is *perfect* for those busy photos that have been stacking up!
This line is actually much more versatile than it first looks. Although it is themed towards travel there are many patterns that translate to other subjects. A lot of my pictures have a variety of primary colors but these papers make it easy to design around them. I normally have a real love affair with
October Afternoon anyway but in this case they really saved me! You know when you are driving around in circles just getting more lost? Well, October Afternoon seriously threw me a
Road Map and got my difficult scrapping back on track.
Into the Woods
I had been holding on to these camping photos for over a year... pulling them out every once in a while and then promptly putting them back because I just couldn't get inspired. As soon as I saw the red plaid pattern in this line I knew I had to use it with camping photos and this layout was (finally) born! I used Kraft cardstock to ground the layout with a natural feel and then added the green pattern to compliment the trees and the red plaid paper because it simply screamed "camping" to me. I added a few cut circles with camping images and framed the entire page with wide stitches of twine.
California Dreaming
Ahh, map paper. It instantly says "travel" and it can be tricky. Here I used it as a full background for half the layout and paired it with the larger print of the red paper on the left. I clustered bunches of the coordinating stickers in the line to journal with and kept the vertical lines of the page going by placing my title going down the right side. The multicolored alpha stickers with this release really add to the fun of these papers!
Destination: Sonic!

Now we come to a couple of photos that are not at all travel related but had those dreaded primary colors. Seriously, I couldn't have designed more perfect papers for these pictures! My husband was making goofy, excited faces about eating at Sonic so I needed some cheeky prints like the yellow and fun stripes I used here. This was a super fast layout to put together after I scattered more of the appropriate expression stickers on a stripe along the bottom.
The Heart of New York

This last layout is my favorite of the bunch. I had been really scratching my head about how to handle these photos from a quick trip to NYC. They are super busy and colorful. I decided to embrace the color by making a grid with squares of the October Afternoon paper but placed it all on a blank canvas of white. I fell in love with using the crossword paper on the left (like the New York Times...get it?!) and even added my own words to the letter boxes.
Finally, I whipped up a couple of cards with my scraps.
The first is this monochromatic card that shows, yet again, that this line does not need to govern only the travel theme. I used a gatefold card with different patterns on the outside and inside and layered ribbons, buttons, and a journaling spot.
The second is an unconventional birthday card. I really liked the number paper in this line and used a strip of it to backup my sentiment that "age is just a number". The graphic patterns in this line make fun birthday projects super easy!
I used the following products on these projects:
