October Challenges!

FALL into inspiration!

October is here! October is here!  Are you as excited as I am about falling leaves and Halloween?  The air has that crisp Autumn feel to it and the harvest time tells us it is time to move activities indoors... a perfect season for scrapbooking if you ask me.  This month the Creative Team is bringing you treats (no tricks!) in the form of another awesome set of challenges.  Have Fun!

Remember:

- only one LO per challenge will enter you into the points drawing

- LOs cannot be entered into more than one challenge category

- *please* only enter LOs that meet the specific challenge instructions

Ad Inspiration Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Paper or Digital

AD INSPIRATION CHALLENGE by MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Ad inspiration is about taking ideas, such as colors, patterns, title or keywords, theme, font styles, and element placement, and using them to create your own layout. You can break the ad inspiration down to a basic sketch, copy a prominent design straight from the ad, or you can alter a design to fit your own layout. Most ads are 8.5x11" but you can adapt the ad to fit any size. Remember, this is not a sketch and you are not required to follow every detail. The key is to really LOOK at the ad and find the pieces that INSPIRE you!

Altered Object Challenge - By JulesinParadise (Jules)

Paper or Hybrid

I am a huge lover of using free clip art and there are tons available on the web. I have learned over time that Google is our friend! My challenge to you this month is to find Halloween or fall free clip art or graphics off the web and to use this on a card, a layout or a project.

I used this wonderful haunted house, which is actually a printable coloring page for children, as the basis for my Halloween shadow box and for a card.

And I used this wonderful silhouette of a witch against a moon to design this Halloween card.

Card Challenge - By bluejeans7 (Angela)

Paper or Digital

Halloween is my favorite holiday and I love sending out Halloween cards to my family and friends. I want you to create a totally traditional Halloween card. Use traditional Halloween colors: black, orange, green & purple. Accent with traditional Halloween symbols like witches, ghosts, black cats, pumpkins, vampires, etc..... And of course don't forget to add a traditional Halloween sentiment: Trick or Treat, Boo, Happy Halloween.

Color Challenge - by Art_Teacher (Laura)

Paper or Digital

Fall is here and the colors combinations are warm and gorgeous! One of my favorite color combos for fall is one you don't always find in a kit together, but by mixing and matching, you can create a wonderful, warm scheme. This month's challenge is to use burnt orange and burgundy together in your layout. The challenge is you can't use any other colors, except neutrals...gray, black, brown, tan, cream...you get the idea. The burnt orange and burgundy should be the focal colors. Of course, there can be other colors in your photo.

Here is my example:

Countdown Challenge - By sarahwhithers (Jennifer)

Paper or Digital

For this challenge you will create a layout using a countdown method of items. I will list five different kinds of things (eg. elements, papers, photos) for you to use in your layout. Every month there will be five new items for you to use.

5 - Leaves
4 - Flowers
3 - Lines of Journaling
2 - Patterned Papers
1 - Template or Sketch

You are welcome to use more than these items (eg. 5 flowers instead of 4 is fine) just as long as you meet the required list and numbers asked for each. A page example is seen below.

Digi CT Reveal Challenge - By Janello (Janell)

Paper or Digital

For October your challenge comes from the Digi CT's Reveal on scrapping PANORAMIC photos. Here is the article for more inspiration.

You layout must include at least one panoramic photo that you embellish.

Example layout by MamaK321 "I was here"

Digi Designer Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Digital only

This month's featured designer is SAS Designs. Create your layout using any of her products available in the ACOT Digital Shoppe.

Digi Do-Able Challenge - By davsar and Smiley-Scrap8 (Sarah and Ronny)

Digital only

Welcome to another edition of Digi Do-Ables! Each month we'll be highlighting one of the wonderful scrappers here at A Cherry On Top. You never know who we might select, and each scrapper who has their layout featured will receive 100 ACOT points! This month we chose cynderellaj's "A Day for the Memory Books".

For this challenge, go to the Digi Shoppe and download the free template. Then, use that template to create your own layout. Flip it, change it, or just use it as it is, it's up to you.

October Digi Technique Challenge - Filters

Often forgotten, there are some really cool filters you can use in Photoshop. They are great for using with already blurry photos, or to just spice one up for an artistic feel. So this month, let's see you experiment using filters on your photos!

In this sample, I used the Fresco filter:

STRENGTH

Definition (Dictionary.com) ~ 1. the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigor; 2. mental power, force, or vigor; 3. moral power, firmness, or courage; 4. power by reason of influence, authority, resources, numbers, etc... 11. something or someone that gives one strength or is a source of power or encouragement.

2 Samuel 22:33 ~ It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.

Psalm 46:1 ~ God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 28:7 ~ The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

Isaiah 40:31 ~ But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Philippians 4:13 ~ I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Strength and courage aren't always measured in medals and victories. They are measured in the struggles they overcome. The strongest people aren't always the people who win, but the people who don't give up when they lose. ~ Ashley Hodgeson

"You gain strength, courage and confidence from every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the think you think you cannot do." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt.

"Some people believe that holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go-- and then do it." ~ Ann Landers

Hybrid Challenge - By Smiley-Scrap8 (Ronny)

Paper AND Digital

October Hybrid Challenge: make a card or layout using an altered digital paper. There are many times when paper is not quite what you are looking for so you ink it or stamp on it or spray it with glimmer mist to give it the look you want. Well you can do that digi style too. I loved the deep melon color of the paper by Sas Designs but I wanted text on it that went with my photos, so I added it in Photoshop and printed the paper to use on my page.

So I want your to alter a digital paper using a brush or text or a blending mode before printing it to use on your layout or card. See my example below:

Journaling Challenge - By jjenni08 (Jenn)

Paper or Digital

There was a baby born into my life this week so this month I want to see you write about something new that came into your life!

Let the Music Move You Challenge - By Kimandasmo (Cindy)

Paper or Digital

With all the thoughts of Fall this month and me dreaming of being able to see the colors of the leaves change... I decided to make this month's challenge all about color. You need to pick any song that has a color in the title and use that as your inspiration for a layout. I chose to use the song "Ebony and Ivory" and here is my example....

Manufacturer Challenge - By 4peasinourpod (Pam)

Paper only

This month we are celebrating the wonderful designs from Fancy Pants Designs. This is an innovative and exciting company with a variety of lines and embellishments. For this challenge, you must create a layout or a project that uses any previous or current Fancy Pants line.

Here is my example from the Delight line:

This is my daughter Delaney at a friends pool. The colors and simple design was what i was looking for because I love this picture so much.

One Word Challenge - By jjenni08 (Jenn)

Paper or Digital

For this month's "One Word Challenge", I want you to use the word trust somewhere in your layout journaling or in your title.

Photography Challenge - By nun69 (Angie)

Photography only

Ok.. usually we do Fall photos this time of year, but I want to see that new outfit you treated yourself to or that one outfit that just looks FAB on you in the Fall! Here is mine that I just bought on Saturday and I can't actually wait to wear it out!

Scraplift the GCT Challenge - By Kimandasmo and SarahA (Cindy and Sarah)

Paper or Digital

This month we are lucky to have the superb, spectacular, wonderful Emarie803 as our GCT. This month you will need to pick one of her layouts to scraplift....and while you are at it why not leave her a little love too. We actually chose TWO layouts to lift this month! When you upload your layout to the gallery, be sure to tell us which layout of Emily's that you lifted. Have fun!

Cindy chose this layout to lift:

Here is Sarah's version of it (featuring a few Cherries!):

Scrap Your Life Challenge - By nun69 (Angie)

Paper or Digital

So, if you had to pick your battles, which ones would you pick to fight/not fight? I did this LO about my DD(16) and not fighting with her anymore about her wearing gauges (things that make the holes in her ears bigger) and worry about other things in life more important!

Sketch Challenge - By Laura Fiore (Laura)

Paper or Digital

Looking for a way to get tons of scrapping done quickly and easily? Then sketches are just what you're looking for! They give your scrapping variety and fun with just a little effort on your part! Take a look at this month's sketch by Juliana, and see what you can do with it!

Here is mine:

Supply List Challenge - By Beth-W (Beth)

Paper or Digital

For the October Supply List Challenge, I want you to use the following items on your page: at least 6 pieces of patterned paper (this is a great way to use up some of those partially used pieces or scraps), a kraft colored item (some examples are cardstock, patterned paper, corrugated cardboard, or naked chipboard), and tags (do you have a ton of those? I know I do.)

Theme Challenge - By ScrapGoo (Jess)

Paper or Digital

This month's theme is the five senses: touch, sound, taste, smell, and sight.  Your challenge is to scrap a LO about one or more of these senses.  For my example layout I scrapped about what Autumn feels like to me... including the feel and smell of the air and the taste of apples.

Trends & Techniques Challenge - By Megamay (Meg)

Paper

I used to cut things out by hand all the time, then I guess I got tired of it and didn't do much of it for a while. Now, Ive been noticing that I am cutting a lot of things out by hand again. So, that is your challenge this month, cut something out by hand on your layout of project. It can be a part of patterned paper like in my example, or you could stamp something and cut out around the stamp. It doesnt really matter as long as you get out those little scissors or craft knives and cut, cut, cut!
