Basic Grey Eerie Collection

The new BOOtiful Halloween line is frightfully awesome!

Halloween Scrapbooking

For me, there is just something about the month of October.  I love the weather here in New England... I love the apple picking, foliage, and hearty cooking and baking.  But nothing beats the outright FUN of celebrating Halloween.  And something about Halloween means that every October magically becomes a little more forgiving for spiders, bats, rats, and other creepy crawlies in my house!  Ok, maybe only the rubber variety.  I've always tended towards a bit of the macabre with a little bit of "cutesy" thrown in and that is why this year's Basic Grey Halloween line, Eerie, was perfect for me to work with.

This collection has something for every Halloween lover.  The colors are rich and go far beyond the typical orange and black into shades of brown, green, and purple too.  There are about a zillion patterns to choose from because these papers are double sided!!  I always love Basic Grey's chipboard accents but this set rocks.  It has everything from cute cats and paisleys to darker spiders and skulls.  I love that this line doesn't make you choose: you can use the same line to scrap a sweet witch OR a scary vampire!

You are going to want some Eerie for all of your spooktacular layouts and projects!

Bootiful Decorations

My first layout makes use of some of the smaller patterns from this line.  The Eerie patterns range from distressed "solids", to small patterns, to full images and everything in between.  I chose to layer part of one of the excellent die cut papers on top of the green background and use my row of photos to separate it from the bottom half of my page.  And have you seen the cool layered journaling papers Basic Grey now makes?  Each journaling spot comes with a paper layer and a perfectly cut transparency that goes on top... so easy!  All it took was a little ribbon and chipboard to finish this.

Retro Halloween

To prove that this line doesn't have to be scary I scrapped these costume photos from last year.  I had been holding on to them for a while because I wanted Halloween paper that could also be a little retro funky to go with my "poodle" skirt.  I was thrilled to find the chipboard cat in this collection and placed it so the tail emphasized the sequined cat on my skirt!  I find that small choices make a big difference when you are trying to convey a subtle mood.  I captured a little of the "retro Hallloween" feeling with the cat, white polka dot background, and the touch of glitter.

Altered Boo Coffin

Because Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year I tend to want to send little gifts and celebrate as much as possible.  That means I love to send little gifts and cards to my family and friends (lucky them)!  I "haunt" the craft stores this time of year for little gifts to alter and this wooden coffin was begging to be covered in paper and filled with candy.

Do you ever have trouble covering the closures/latches on these types of things? I used to get so frustrated trying to perfectly cut around the metal parts or making templates.  Not anymore!  I find that it is easiest to use a tiny eyeglasses screwdriver to remove the closure.  Then I can add the paper and screw the closure right back on and the whole thing looks smooth!  This is SO much faster and easier.

Halloween Paint Can

Who wouldn't love getting this fun paint can full of candy as a treat in the mail!?  No tricks here... it's simply a clear plastic "paint can" from the local craft store.  I measured out the paper for the liner and layered strips of patterned paper, a journaling block, and alpha stickers on the inside.  I wanted the outside of the can to have some texture and dimension so I added a couple of the felt Woolies from this line and the black pom pom trim.  The lid was simple to cover with another patterned circle, a pop dotted spider, and a ring of crystals.  I tied the bits of ribbon to the handle and BAM... an awesome treat to mail or send to the office or school.

Trick or Treat Card

Finally, I needed a card to send.  I really liked these four postage stamps included on the sticker sheet for this line and knew they would be perfect for a card.  I matted them with a background made from another part of the black die cut sheet (covered in Stickles of course) and added a tied bit of rustic orange "ribbon" to the side.  This came together super fast because these papers just speak for themselves.  You really do not have to add much to get beautiful results.

I used the following products on these projects:
