Basic Grey Origins 9 comments

What a versatile line!

Posted by bluejeans7 on Tuesday, February 2, 2010

I have to admit that I have a really hard time scrapbooking with the color yellow.  So why did I pick a line for my CT reveal that has lots of yellow in it?  Because it's good to face your fears and challenge yourself.  But with the Basic Grey Origins line everything came together so easily for me even when I used yellow as the main color.  I finished all six of my reveal layouts in just a couple of days!  After placing my CT order I immediately went through my photos pulling out ones that I thought would go with the Origins line.  I had enough photos picked out for more then 20 layouts!  LOL!  After I received my package I started going through my photos that I had laid out and I realized that ALL of my photos would work great with the Origins papers!  The Origins line is so versatile that you could scrap so many photos and so many different themes with it.  I scrapped a black & white photo, a layout about my son, a layout about my daughter's birthday gifts, and several family layouts.  This line would also be perfect for Mother's Day, Easter, grandparents, baby, hertiage.........you get the idea.  So take my advice and buy this line, you will be glad you did.

Always In My Heart:  On this layout I kept going back and forth on my background paper.  I knew I wanted to use one of the more "solid colored" papers instead of a busier pattern.  But I couldn't decide between the yellow on the back of the Parafinn or the green on the back of the Brown Sugar Scrub.  I'm normally not drawn to yellow but this time I was, the yellow just seemed to make my black & white photo stand out more.  Then I had fun using a mix of lots of other patterns to finish my layout.  For embellishments I used the Origins Pops and Origins Glazed Brads on my cut out hearts.

Erik's Garden:  See this line works for boy layouts too!  Again on this layout I loved the bright yellow, I think it really brings out the yellow flowers in the photos.  For this layout I used the Origins Woolies for my accents.  These Woolies are so cool!!  I love their texture and all the layers they have to them.  I also love the Origins Chip Sticker ABC's that I used for Erik's name in my title.  These chipboard letters are awesome and I love that they are self adhesive.

Gift Cards:  Layers, layers and more layers!  I love to use lots of layers of pattern papers and with this Origins line the possibilities are endless.  In the Origins line you have 18 double sided papers to pick from, that's 36 different pattern papers!!  And there are lots of different kinds of embellishments to pick from too.  On this layout I used a mix of the Origins Pops, Origins Canvas Tags, Origins Pieces and the Origins Element Stickers.

It's All About Family:  Like I said this line is perfect for family themed layouts and the colors were perfect for these family photos that we had taken this past summer.  I totally love the Origins Pieces!  They are perfect for accents, journaling or even for your title like I used one on this layout.  For my title I used a mix of the Origins Chip Sticker ABC's and the Origins Mini Mono Stickers.  And of course I had to use a couple of the cute Origins Bloomers flowers, love them!  To finish this layout I used the smallest size of the Origins Brads to accent both my scallop edged paper and the Henna paper.

Our Family Of Four:  I had fun with the Origins embellishments on this layout.  Using only cardstock as my base and two pattern papers: Sugar Pea and Revitalize, the rest of the layout is all embellishments.  I used the Origins Stitched Brads, Origins Bloomers, Origins Pieces, Origins Always Green Sparkling Rubs,  Origins Chip Sticker ABC's and the Origins Mini Mono Stickers.

When?:  I had to try one of the beautiful 12x12 laser cut paper, this one is the Tracery Brown Doilies paper.  I placed it on top of black cardstock because I loved the look and the way the white stood out.  Then I added a couple of scraps of paper I had leftover from my other layouts and then cut out some hearts from other scraps.  A couple of Origins Glazed Brads and a Origins Writer's Block for my journaling completes this layout.

Beautiful layouts! You did a great job with this line and the challenge of colors not normally used (I also shy away from yellow).
