February Challenges! 16 comments

You're going to LOVE the inspiration!

Posted by ScrapGoo on Saturday, January 30, 2010

Love is in the air... and so is a new set of challenges!  Consider these a valentine from the CT to you!! February is full of reasons to be knee-deep in your scrap supplies so check out our challenges and get papercrafting.  Someone you love will appreciate the TLC you put in all your creations and isn't that a big part of why we do what we do?  Have a sweet month!

Remember:

- only one LO per challenge will enter you into the points drawing

- LOs cannot be entered into more than one challenge category

- *please* only enter LOs that meet the specific challenge instructions

Ad Inspiration Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Ad inspiration is about taking ideas, such as colors, patterns, title or keywords, theme, font styles, and element placement, and using them to create your own layout. You can break the ad inspiration down to a basic sketch, copy a prominent design straight from the ad, or you can alter a design to fit your own layout. Most ads are 8.5x11" but you can adapt the ad to fit any size. Remember, this is not a sketch and you are not required to follow every detail. The key is to really LOOK at the ad and find the pieces that INSPIRE you!

Altered Object Challenge - By JulesinParadise (Jules)

Paper or Hybrid Scrapbooking

I love tags and I have found some of the most interesting shapes come from manufacturers of clothing and other products. My challenge to you this month is to use at least 3 tags on a card, a layout or an altered object that come from a manufacturer. You may cover the tags but if you do, please post the originals along with your creation.

I used a variety of manufacture tags on this layout about my weight loss. I like the interesting shapes and how they reinforce my title and photos.

Have fun and I can't wait to see what you create with this month's object, manufacturers tags.

Card Challenge - By bluejeans7 (Angela)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Create a Valentine's Day card with a decorative edge. You can use a border punch, trace a template, or even freehand your decorative edge. I used a piece of Bazzill scallop-edged cardstock to trace my edge. Can't wait to see what you do!

Color Challenge - by Art_Teacher (Laura)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

There are so many lovely shades of pink and it goes so well with so many colors. Black and pink for a sophisticated look, or pink and green for a preppy, 80's look, or pink and white for a soft, sweet look, or one of my personal favorites: brown and pink for a chic, modern look. Whatever you pair it with, pink is the color for February! For this challenge, I want you to create a layout in any shade of pink, from salmon to dusty rose to fuschia! Pair it with any color you like, but the layout must be at least 50% pink!

Countdown Challenge - By sarahwhithers (Jennifer)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

For this challenge you will create a layout using a countdown method of items. I will list five different kinds of things (eg. elements, papers, photos) for you to use in your layout. Every month there will be five new items for you to use. This month I'm doing a Valentine's day inspired one!

5 - Hearts
4 - Love Words (can be in title, journaling or elements)
3 - Different shades of red papers
2 - Kinds of flowers
1 - Rub-on or Stamp
You are welcome to use more than these items (eg. 5 love words instead of 4 is fine) just as long as you meet the required list and numbers asked for each. A page is seen below.

Faithbooking Challenge - By Keling (Sara)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

FAITHBOOKING CHALLENGE - My Jesus, I Love Thee

Create a layout that is inspired by the hymn, My Jesus I Love Thee, by William Featherston.

"Sixteen-year-old William Featherston of Montreal wrote this simple hymn shortly after his conversion in 1862. He died before his twenty-seventh birthday, ad this is apparently the only hymn he wrote.

"Young Featherston sent the poem to his aunt in Los Angeles, who then sent it to England, where it appeared in The London Hymnbook of 1864. Back in Boston, Massachusetts, Baptist minister A. J. Gordon was preparing a hymnal for Baptist congregations when he saw 'My Jesus, I Love Thee' in the British hymnal. He didn't like the music the words were set to, and he later wrote that 'in a moment of inspiration, a beautiful new air sang itself to me.' The simple tune he wrote perfectly complemented the simple words, and soon the hymn was being sung across America."

This is real love - not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. - 1 John 4:10-11

Taken from Great Songs of Faith, August 31.

Journaling Challenge - By jjenni08 (Jenn)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Your journaling challenge this month is to write about love. It can be for an object, a person, a special relationship, etc. The sky is the limit. Good luck and I can't wait to see all of the layouts!

Manufacturer Challenge - By 4peasinourpod (Pam)

Paper Scrapbooking

This month we are featuring Prima!

February is the month of love, so I picked Prima, because someone that I love (JulesinParadise) send me this sheet of hand stitched Prima paper that I had drooled over at CHA last summer. It is also pink (color of love) and my daughter (whom I love). You may use anything Prima on your layout or project. Have fun and remember to upload to the manufacturer gallery!

Musical Inspiration Challenge - By Kimandasmo (Cindy)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

This month's challenge is to use a song from your favorite musical as inspiration for a project. I did not chose my favorite musical but my DD's since my layout is about her. She loves the musical Mama Mia and I chose to use the song Dancing Queen(s) as my title for this month's challenge layout.

Here is my example:

One Word Challenge - By jjenni08 (Jenn)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Bliss is watching your team finally make it to the Super Bowl!

Your one word challenge this month is to create a layout with the word "bliss". Good luck!

Photography Challenge - By nun69 (Angie)

Photography

This month's challenge is FUN! I want you to photograph yourself, a loved one, or even a pet in their favorite hat!!!! Even if you don't have cold weather I am sure you have a fun sun hat!!! So let's see them, girls!!

Scraplift the GCT Challenge - By Kimandasmo and SarahA (Cindy and Sarah)

Scrap Your Life Challenge - By nun69 (Angie)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

So I know you all have some kind of dream...whether it be a dream vacation, a dream house, a dream of having a family, etc. I want you to dig deep and put that dream on paper. I would also like to challenge you to do it without an actual photograph, but this is not a requirement :) { I did mine with a drawing I downloaded form the internet!}

Sketch Challenge - By Laura Fiore and 4peasinourpod (Laura and Pam)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

We've shared a ton of ways to use sketches with you over the last few weeks, so let's see what you can do with this sketch...it's our runner up from the forum sketch contest, by Kristen (immom2anc)!

Here is Laura's:

And Pam's:

Supply List Challenge - By 4Peasinourpod (Pam)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Beth is taking a much needed break from her challenge as she moves, so I am going to step in and help her out! (She did the same for me last August when I was overwhelmed with CHA, visiting Sus and Girl Scout camp)

Although...I DID make her pick the supplies I had to use!

So...this month, for Valentine's Day, she picked glitter, a heart and fabric.

So, just to twist it, I did a very NON-Valentine's Day layout. This is a layout about someone I love, though...Jules' husband Gene. We share a love for oyster shooters. Amongst other things, lol!

Theme Challenge - By ScrapGoo (Jess)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Everywhere you go this month you'll see signs of sweetness.  Valentine's Day brings romance, love, and sweet goodies to tempt you!  For the Theme Challenge this month I want you to scrap about the things that make *your* life sweet.  I, of course, chose to scrap about my new baby boy who makes every day sweeter than the next.  You can choose to scrap about a person, a thing, or even the sweet treat that you just can't live without!

Trends & Techniques Challenge - By Megamay (Meg)

Paper Scrapbooking

This month's technique and trend is going to be stitching. I have seen lots of 'soft' fabrics and embellishments in the CHA sneak peaks, and along with fabric I associate stitching. So, show me some stitching. It can be hand stitching, machine stitching, or faux. You decide.

Here is my example, where I used machine stitching.
