Hambly Rub-Ons and so much more 5 comments
Add detail and interest to craft projectsPosted by megamay I've been loving the new Hambly stuff - the little rub-ons squares and all the cool looking frames, but I have to admit I was a little apprehensive about actually using them. I picked them as my reveal this month as a sort of kick in the pants to get me thinking outside the box. Boy did they ever! I adore each of these layouts just a little more than the last. After a little bit of hesitation, I am happy that I dove right in and made these my own. I started with a sort of lift from one of my favorite scrappers - Stephanie Howell. She used the square rub-ons to back the title on one of her layouts. I thought it was such a cool idea! I have been saving a few papers full of hand prints that Ellie made, but I had no idea what to do with them. I was just struck by inspiration to cut them out and use them as the focal point of the layout - without any pictures. I kept the color palette neutral here because the hand prints were primary blue and green. For the frame on the top, I applied the rub-on to a transparency and wrote the lyrics from Jewel's Hands song inside the frame. My journaling is on a MME die cut that sort of echoes that frame. Another rub-on is around the flower in the lower right to add a bit of detail there. How could you look at all these gorgeous white rub-ons, cream frames and lacy transparencies and NOT see wedding stuff? I used cream cardstock, lightly misted with maya mist as my background. I cut the flocked flowers from a piece of My Mind's Eye Lush paper so I could layer them more. I applied the square rub-ons all together as a block onto the red Lush paper. The frame is also Hambly. For the title, I cut part of the doily transparency, layered with a couple of die cuts and a grungeboard bookplate. Oh and there are some Basic Grey border stickers and doily paper ribbons in there to tie it all together. Oops, I almost forgot that little detail on the left. I used a cream frame to frame one of the smaller flowers. It would have been better if I had a white frame, and if I had sprayed more mist in that area to make it stand out more. I applied the rub-on over the stem of the flower to make it look like it was coming out through the frame. I wanted to do something totally funky with the purple magenta rub-on squares, so I applied them to orange patterned paper and cut them out, before re-arranging them in a square formation as the background of this photo. I used a white background to really make this pop. I added some cardboard to the frame to give it dimension. In the corner there is a part of a Hambly sticker layered with a couple of strips of paper, a couple flowers and a Bazzill brad that I added a rub-on to. Now that we've seen neutral, elegant, and funky let's move on to FUN! This one is just all fun. I wanted to showcase the cupcake transparency with some birthday photos. Unfortunately I had not scrapped these photos yet for good reason - they were all pretty terrible. (That's what I get when you hand your camera to the preschool teacher and hope she remembers to even get it out. I was just happy that I got the camera back and it actually had photos on it.) So, I thought this was a perfect time to try out a technique I saw somewhere of creating a mini album right on the page. I wanted mine to sort of be hidden, so I hid it underneath the main photo. The paperclips swivel aside to reveal the album. I also came up with a neat way to use the Hambly rub-on frames here. Again I applied them to transparency and cut them out, then I used them to sort of frame the chipboard rabbit and the frame that I used for the title. Yes there is a lot going on here, but I think it's kind of fun. Finally, a simple, elegant card. I layered a rub-on, a sticker and a piece of an older Hambly transparency to create a unique frame for the sentiment on this card. Add a little ribbon and some bling and voila! Beautiful, elegant and flat enough to actually mail! (unlike a lot of my cards) Products used in this reveal Posted by megamay Reader Comments ... 9/16/10 7:12 am
