Happy Hauntings Cricut Cartridge 14 comments

It's Spooktacular!

Posted by Dianedi

Normally at this time of year, I'm ready for back to school, the brisk days of fall, and the upcoming holidays. This year, I'm finding that a little difficult since it is still 90 degrees in Boston! But, I have to say that once I picked up the Happy Hauntings Cricut cartridge from ProvoCraft that I started getting my holiday groove in gear!

"Halloween Party"

Last October, our family had so much fun hosting our first Halloween party! In New England, it was a warm night in the mid 60's. We took the festivities outside to roast smores, play games like pass the pumpkin, and to dance. This photo is a group shot of all of the kids that I took toward the end of the night! We hosted Transformers, witches, fairies, Superman, cowgirls, ladybugs and a butterfly! Because this was a very colorful bunch, I decided to convert the photo to black and white.

For the layout, I started with Bazzill purple cardstock and added Marah Johnson's die-cut Iron Gate paper from her Breathless Collection. I printed out the photo in a 5"x7" size and double-matted the photo with orange and black cardstock. I placed the mat on a layer of patterned paper that had been punched along the edges with a Lattice Martha Stewart punch.  Next, I took out my Cricut Expression Machine and the Happy Hauntings cartridge. I began by working on my skeleton. You'll find the skeleton image on page 29 of the manual. I cut the image out at 8" using gray and white cardstock. For the hat I used purple and orange cardstock and added a few embellishments. The orange piece that I adhered to the chest to add a little color is from the mouth of the pumpkin that I cut out below.

Next, I cut out the Graveyard image at the bottom of the layout. You'll find the image on page 62 of the manual. Press the shift and Graveyard button and cut the image out at 7".  The background of the image I cut out in dark gray. Then, I cut out the Layer1 in green for the grass. I inked both pieces before adhering them together. Lastly, I cut out three pumpkins at 2" from page 61 of the manual. The base of the pumpkin was brown and then I cut out the face in orange.

"Halloween Frame"

I thought that ProvoCraft was pretty ingenious to include this frame in the Happy Hauntings cartridge. What a fabulous idea for a party favor or Halloween gift! I plan on creating some of these with my daughters second grade class this year!

For this frame, you can refer to page 68 of the manual. I cut all of the pieces at 5.75". The photo will be approximately 3" x 3.5". I cut out the main frame layer in orange and the spider web in black. Next, I cut both pieces of layer 1 in black cardstock. You'll notice that easel of the frame is simply cardstock. I used foam tape to adhere it to the frame. For added strength, you could cut out 2 easels and adhere them together. For a simple embellishment, I used a Pumpkin layered die-cut from K and Company.

"Happy Halloween Frankenstein

How cute are these characters? I loved them when I opened up the cartridge manual! (page 30 and 31) To start, I cut out both Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein at 5". Frankenstein's base is cut out of white and shift layer is created in black. You'll cut out layer 2 in green cardstock and then adhere the pieces together. The Bride of Frankenstein base layer is cut out of white and the shift layer is created in purple. You'll cut out layer 2 in green cardstock and then adhere the pieces together. The Happy Halloween sentiment is cut from the Bats Creative Imaginations Creepy patterned paper.

"Happy Batty Halloween"

This card is created using the webbed frame found on page 38 of the manual. The frame is cut out at 5.75" in purple for layer 1 and the (frame1-s) is cut out in black. I added the Happy Halloween sentiment and bat embellishment from the Bats Creative Imaginations Creepy patterned paper.  These are adhered with foam tape to add dimension. I also added orange rhinestones from Kaiser Craft to the edge of the spider web to add some detail.

"Happy Ghostly Halloween"

For this card, I've used the ghost found on page 37 of the manual. The ghost is cut out at 4" using black for the base layer and the shift layer was cut out using white cardstock. I inked the edges and added just a bit of Stickles for some color. For the frame, you can refer to page 45 of the manual. This frame is the pumpkin frame, but I just cut off the top of the pumpkin to make it work for this size card. I cut the frame at 6" in orange cardstock for the base which is the shift layer and black cardstock for the outside layer.

"Beware"

This card uses the Witches Cauldron found on page 49 of the manual. The cauldron was cut out a 5.25" in black cardstock. The bubbling liquid was layer 1 cut out in purple cardstock with stickles for added sparkle. The cloud of smoke was cut out in green.  The Beware sentiment is found on page 67 of the manual and is cut out at 1.5" with orange and black cardstock.
