July Challenges! 16 comments

Stay cool with these challenges from the CT!

Posted by ScrapGoo

It's been sweltering in these parts lately and I don't know about you but I get a little sluggish in the heat and find it hard to be creative.  Good thing the awesome Creative Team put together another stellar set of challenges to get you motivated this month!!  So, if you can break yourselves away from sipping froo froo drinks by the pool (Tiki Bar, anyone?), then get yourself scrapping and let's see what you can do!

Remember:

- only one LO per challenge will enter you into the points drawing

- LOs cannot be entered into more than one challenge category

- *please* only enter LOs that meet the specific challenge instructions

Ad Inspiration Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Ad inspiration is about taking ideas, such as colors, patterns, title or keywords, theme, font styles, and element placement, and using them to create your own layout. You can break the ad inspiration down to a basic sketch, copy a prominent design straight from the ad, or you can alter a design to fit your own layout. Most ads are 8.5x11" but you can adapt the ad to fit any size. Remember, this is not a sketch and you are not required to follow every detail. You can use either one or both pages of this ad to inspire your layout. The key is to really LOOK at the ad and find the pieces that INSPIRE you!

Altered Object Challenge - By JulesinParadise (Jules)

Paper or Hybrid Scrapbooking

I am a firm believer in using it all up. This month I would love to see what you can do with the packaging materials from either scrapbook products or something from your pantry. I used the clear acrylic enclosure for the darling MM products to create a floating window for a thank you card... show me yours! I've shown you mine.

Card Challenge - By bluejeans7 (Angela)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

I love the look and the texture that embossing brings to plain cardstock but you can also emboss pattern paper too. I want you to emboss on some pattern papers for your card this month. Any card theme is fine just show me your embossing skills.

Color Challenge - by Art_Teacher (Laura)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

July always makes me think of the colors red, white, and blue, of course. However, red and blue look fantastic with other neutrals besides white. Try red and black, or blue and tan, or the combos I used in my example layouts: red and brown and blue and brown. For this challenge, I want you to pair either red or blue with a neutral besides white (grey, black, brown, tan, cream, etc.). You may use other colors as accents, but at least 75% of your layout should be your red or blue + neutral combo.

Countdown Challenge - By sarahwhithers (Jennifer)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

For this challenge you will create a layout using a countdown method of items. I will list five different kinds of things (eg. elements, papers, photos) for you to use in your layout. Every month there will be five new items for you to use. This month I thought of how summer means gardens! Whether it be flowers, fruits or veggies!

5 - Flowers or veggies or fruits elements
4 - Ribbons and/or strings
3 - Different alphas or fonts in your title and/or journaling
2 - Yellow dominant papers
1 - Large picture (over 4x6 size)

You are welcome to use more than these items (eg. 5 ribbons instead of 4 is fine) just as long as you meet the required list and numbers asked for each. A page is seen below.

Die Cut Challenge - By Dianedi (Diane)

Paper  Scrapbooking

Using your die-cutting tools, create a layout that contains all of the colors: red, white and blue! Your layout does not have to be a patriotic theme!

Please indicate which die-cutting tools such as a Cricut, Silhouette, Sizzix or other you've used. At least 50% of your layout must be created using your die-cutting tools! Have fun!

Digi CT Reveal Challenge - By Janello (Janell)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Taken from the reveal: "Orange You Glad"

Faithbooking Challenge - By Keling (Sara)

JULY FAITHBOOKING CHALLENGE - Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

"Helen Lemmel was already a noted Christian singer and voice teacher on that day in 1918 when a friend of hers, a missionary, handed her a tract called 'Focused.' It said: 'So then, turn your eyes upon Him, look full into His face and you will find that the things of earth will acquire a strange new dimness.'

"The tract struck a chord in Lemmel. 'Suddenly,' she said later, 'as if commanded to stop and listen, I stood still, and singing in my soul and spirit was the chorus, with not one conscious moment of putting word to word to make rhyme, or note to note to make melody. The verses were written the same week, after the usual manner of composition.'

"Later the same year, the song was published in London in pamphlet form. It quickly became a favorite of Christians in England (especially at the Keswick Convention), then in America, and around the world."

Helen Howarth Lemmel (1864-1961)

Colossians 3:1-3 - "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God's right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God."

Taken from Great Songs of Faith, March 15.

Heritage Challenge - By JanetM (Janet)

Paper AND Digital Scrapbooking

Summer days way back when?

It doesn't matter how far back our childhood goes and mine goes back pretty far.  Use a picture from a summer when you were growing up and tell us about it. Where did you love to go or to do?  Tell something that brings back a good memory that you want to capture for the future.

Hybrid Challenge - By Smiley-Scrap8 (Ronny)

Paper AND Digital Scrapbooking

July Hybrid Challenge: Nice and simple! Choose your favorite digital kit and print out at least 3 of the papers. Use them to make 1 layout or 2 cards so I can see the papers you chose. (Hint: sometimes I only need a small piece of the paper I like, so I will drag and drop several papers onto one 8.5 x 11 canvas, then I can print them all on one sheet of printer paper without a lot of waste.) That's what I did for my example below:

Journaling Challenge - By Jenn Kellams (Jenn)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

For the month of July, I would like for you to challenge yourself with thoughts of "2nd Chances". Journal about something you would like a 2nd chance at. It can whimsical, serious, life altering, playful. The sky is the limit! I chose to journal about something fun and wrote about a "2nd chance to Europe!"

Manufacturer Challenge - By 4peasinourpod (Pam)

Paper Scrapbooking

This month, we are going to feature GCD Studios! We have a friend (Juliana) on their DT, and they just sponsored a contest here... and that, along with GREAT papers, makes us LOVE them!

Here is my layout featuring their Canta line (which I TOTALLY LOVED, by the way!!!)

Upload your layouts/projects in the manufacturer challenge by the 31st! Can't want to see the beauty!

Musical Inspiration Challenge - By Kimandasmo (Cindy)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

It has been awhile since I have given you a specific song to scrap. But I have had this song rattling around in my brain for at least the last month, so I thought if I scrapped it, it may just get it out of my brain.  What song you may ask?  It is an older one... and a little different, but I am hoping that most of you will have heard it at least at some point in time.

The B-52's.... Love Shack! Use this song any way, anyhow as your inspiration for a project this month.

And I have 2 different examples for you this month:

One Word Challenge - By Jenn Kellams (Jenn)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

For the month of July, I would like for you to use the word PARTY in the "One Word Challenge". Scrap about anything that is cause for a celebration and use the word somewhere obvious on you layout! Happy Scrapping

It's all about summer fun!!!!! So get out and show me what you do for fun in the summer! We made a trip to the drive in to see Toy Story 3 and the kids enjoyed some outdoors sprinkler time. :)

Supply List Challenge - By Beth-W (Beth)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

On hiatus

Theme Challenge - By ScrapGoo (Jess)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Ok, I'll bite!  I don't usually go for the most obvious theme each month but I am super excited about celebrating Owen's first 4th of July so I am feeling the patriotic vibes!  For now, see my example of a page I did about my grandfather's service in WWII.  I want you to scrap something patriotic too... your Independence Day celebrations, fireworks, military related, etc.

Trends & Techniques Challenge - By Megamay (Meg)

Paper Scrapbooking

I guess it is because it's the summer, but I have been seeing CITRUS colors everywhere. So this month I challenge you to make a layout where the main color is a citrus-y color - yellow, green or orange. Even better if you use all three, but that isn't required. It just has to be a sort of citrus-y shade - i.e. no dark hunter greens only lime greens.

Here is my example, using all three - yellow orange and green.
