Making Holiday Embellishments 3 comments

Posted by Mommybruno

Have you ever made a scrapbook layout and tried to find the perfect embellishment, only to luck out? Sometimes, even with the plethora of ready-made embellies out there, it can be hard to find just the one you need. So what do you do? You make your own. This can be done using any number of digi tools or ready-made embellishments reworked to suit your specific needs. Let's see how the Digi Creative Team created their own holiday-themed embellishments, and see if you get inspired!

Bumi!, by Laura (art_teacher): For the reveal this week, we were supposed to make our own embellishments for holiday layouts. I made the paisley at the top of the layout with my shape tool, outlining, and layering it with the heart stickers included in the kit. I made the "bumi" also using my shape tool and merging the circles and arches together and outlining it.

 Christmas 2010

Christmas 2010, by Egle (FairyMouseMom): This layout was made for ACOT's Digital Creative Team's Reveal - making our own holiday embellishments. We could do this by adding to an already-existing embellishment from a digital kit or make our own from scratch. Of course, I opted to create my own, with the help of using Silvia Romeo's paper! I created a modern looking triangular Christmas tree shape....merged paper to it. I then used my brush (one regular and one impressionist style) and zig-zagged it over the top of the tree. I then merged an off-white paper to that. I then drew and filled in a star for all three and colored each to match the respective trees.

The Leg, by Cassandra (mommybruno): For the CT reveal, I created the turkey leg using my digi cookie cutter tool - it started life as a lightbulb, LOL! I filled in some areas, changed the shape a bit, and then clipped some PP to it. The bone was just a bone, also in the digi cookie cutter. With just a few steps I have the perfect embellishment for my layout!

Gift of Memories, by Laura (art_teacher): For this reveal about creating your own embellishments, one of the things I like to create myself are frames. For this one, I used my software to create tiles and overlaid them with the papers from the kit I was using. Then I grouped them alternately, and tied them together with brads and candies from the kit. Add a ribbon on top and voila! A custom-made frame for my photo!

Yummy Desserts, by Egle (FairyMouseMom): Look at that adorable turkey! Egle didn't have her description up before I had to post this, so zip on over to the gallery to find out how she crafted this great embellishment!

Baby New Year, by Cassandra (mommybruno): For this layout about my older cousin looking so stinkin' cute way back in 1974, I looked through my digi cookie cutter for something I could use as a champagne bottle. Nothing. But there was a trophy that worked good as a champagne glass, once I erased the handles and shortened it up. I also applied a glass button layer style to make it look a bit more interesting. Then just add sparkly paper for champagne!

Little Miss Firecracker, by Laura (art_teacher): For this layout, I created the firecracker title spot with my software and some premade embellies (star, colored sprinkles, and glitter swirl). I also turned a peppermint candy element into a background paper and cut out the edge of a button to create a red acrylic frame.

It's A Wrap!, by Cassandra (mommybruno): For this layout, I used existing embellishments to create something new. In this case, I turned photo corners a nd staples into a Christmas tree, which nicely filled in the dead space of my photo.

...And A Partridge In A Candle Ring?, by Egle (FairyMouseMom): ...for this reveal layout...I created the holly leaves and berry and the candle from my cookie cutter tool on Photoshop Elements (Mac)...and used different papers for these embellishments...
