October Afternoon Report Card 11 comments

School pages

Posted by Dianedi

Who can resist October Afternoon papers and embellishments? The colors are vibrant, the patterns are easy to work with, and the embellishments always add the perfect touch to any project. For this reveal, I was lucky enough to work with the new October Afternoon Report Card line. The line offers six beautifully designed papers that offer a mix of primary colors with aqua blue and lime green. Throughout the line, you'll see a combination of shapes, flowers, stars and even vintage embellishments for your pages. The best part of the Report Card line is that it is so versatile it can be used on both boy and girl school pages.

In my opinion, creating school pages is exactly like scrapbooking holiday or birthday photos. Generally, you have the same things to scrap every year. The challenge is creating something new and exciting with the latest photos! For most of the school pages I've created for my children's albums, I've always used a white cardstock background. This way, the general feel of my pages remains consistent as I add to the albums every year.  But, I can still create different designs to accomodate the number of photos I'd like to include.

"First Day"

This year, my daughter Lauren started First grade and is now going to school for a full day. It was hard for me to contain myself so I channeled all of that emotion through my camera and took a ton of photos. For this layout, I used a 4"x6" photo of my daughter as the focal point and then added 3 additional photos that are 1.5"x2.5". I used the Bus route paper which is aqua with white flowers and the floral embellishments on the Report Card Shape Stickers for a unified look. I also layered several Report Card Label Stickers for additional depth and embellishment. For added texture, I cut up one of the Prima olive stems to add felt around the flowers.

"Preschool for King and Queens"

My five year old son, Colin, seems to think that he is the King of his castle. This year, I thought it was very fitting that his preschool had a king and queen theme for their Halloween party! Rather than using traditional Halloween papers, I liked the idea of using the Report Card line so it fits into the look of his school album. On this layout, I used an oval as the basis for the design which I cut out using the Cricut Graphically Speaking cartridge. There were a lot of colors in the background of my photos so I printed them in a sepia tone. I created a simple background by using several embellishments from the Shape Sticker sheet, Label Sticker sheet,  and Word Sticker sheet and the Hot Lunch patterned paper. I also added foam tape to several of the stickers to add dimension.

"Bus Stop"

I remember the infamous days of the bus stop when I went to school. Truly, I despised them as I got older. It seemed as though I had to walk a mile straight up a hill to get there just to meet a few unfriendly bullies. Luckily, Lauren only has to walk to the end of the driveway and she has fun waiting with some of her very sweet friends. The bus stop will change over the years as the kids get older and go up to the middle school. For now, she has fun sharing some of her treasures and asks to go out early everyday.

In this layout, I had seven photos that I wanted to highlight so I decided to create a photo collage leaving white space between each of the photos. Each of the smaller photos are 1.5"x2.5" and the larger photo is 4"square. I used two 1"x12" paper strips from the Bus Route and Recess papers underneath the collage and then layered 2 round stickers toward the right. One of the large round stickers is from the Shape Sticker Sheet  and the second round sticker is from the Word Sticker Sheet.  I continued using the circular theme for a few more embellishments on the layout. Using the Graphically Speaking Cartridge, I cut out two 5" large circles that each had a thin outside border. I cut those in half and used 3 at the top of the layout and one at the bottom.

"Thank You Card"

I also wanted to create a card using the classroom vintage sticker from the Report Card Sticker Sheet. I'll save this for later in the year!
