School Year Pocket Album 1 comments

The first step is to cut 9 pieces of your coordinating cardstock to 8 1/2  by 5 3/4 inches. Then cut the notebook paper into nine 5 x 7 3/4 inch pieces. Since all of my pieces of notebook paper would not have the red margin lines on them, I used a red pen to draw them on myself. I also lightly distressed the edges of my  notebook paper. The next step is to adhere the notebook paper to the cardstock. You should have 9 pieces that look like this:

Since you will be adding the pictures throughout the year, we will just add photo mats now. You will need to cut 9 pieces of white cardstock (or whatever you are using) in 3 1/4 by 4 1/4 pieces. I also distressed the edges of these. Next I inked the edges of the journaling cards, then matched them to the colored cardstock pieces. I adhered a photo mat and journaling card on each piece. I plan to use the journaling cards to tell what my daughter has learned each month.

The album should have the envelope pages for the front and back with the pocket pages in between. Leave the front cover blank, but  adhere your first month to the other side. You will first want to cut the flap off and remove the little disc so your first page will lay flat and you will have a pocket for that month.

Adhere the cardstock sheets one side at a time so you can see where the holes for the rings are, then punch the holes.
Next, use the alphas or month stickers to label each page with a month. Use the October Afternoon Report Card stickers to further embellish each page. They don't need a lot because your focus will be the photo and journaling.

As you can see, I left the back envelope in tact to hold other photos or mementos from the year. The tags should be slipped into the pocket pages. They will act as dividers for the front and back of each pocket's goodies.
Next we will make the cover. Cut another sheet of the cardstock to 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches. Cut another color to 8 x 5 1/4 inches, distress the edges and then center and adhere it to the cardstock. Next, I chose 2 of the K and Co. Handmade Alphabet Cards, inked the edges and adhered them to the center of the page. I used the letters for my daughter's initials. I then added the title "Preschool Memories" using the same alphas from the months on the inside pages. Yours could say "Fifth Grade" or "Susie's Memories" or whatever you like. I then used two more OA Report Card stickers for the top and bottom of the cover. I used the "My Handwriting" sticker for this part so she can write her name on her own book.

The last step is to just insert the rings and snap it together!
