August Challenges 11 comments

Posted by ScrapGoo

Happy August!  We're winding down, folks.  The last month of summer is here!  Are you all vacationed out yet?  Have you taken a bazillion pictures of all the fun and festivities? Are you now asking yourself what the heck you're going to do with said photos?!  Have no fear... the ACOT Creative Team is here with another fabulous set of challenges to inspire you.

Remember:

- only one LO per challenge will enter you into the points drawing

LOs cannot be entered into more than one challenge category

- *please* only enter LOs that meet the specific challenge instructions

Ad Inspiration Challenge - By MamaK321 (Kristianne)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

All About Me Challenge - By millmomma (Brittney)

Paper or Digi

Key Parts of Me- For this months AAM, I wanted to feature peices that make me who I am. My piericings are keys to me. I feel naked without them. Its a normal part of my life no matter what others think. What pieces of you make you, you?

Altered Object Challenge - By JulesinParadise (Jules)

Paper or Hybrid Scrapbooking

This month I challenge you to use wax paper to create an embellishment for a card, a layout or an altered object. I shaved crayons onto a piece of waxed paper, folded it over and covered it with a piece of thin material. I put my iron setting to medium and ironed. I used this piece of melted color on a necklace to be put into my gifts to give box.

I can't wait to see what you do with waxed paper.

Card Challenge - By bluejeans7 (Angela)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

Create a card with the following items.

-4 different pattern papers

-3 buttons or brads

-2 techniques (I used doodling and inking.)

-1 flower

Color Challenge - by Art_Teacher (Laura)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

One of my favorite complementary color combos is blue and orange. They both seem to say "Summer" to me and together they are perfect for outdoor photos and summer activities. For this month's color challenge I challenge you to use blue and orange together on your layout. You may use other neutrals, but the only colors should be shades of blue and orange.

Countdown Challenge - By sarahwhithers (Jennifer)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

For this challenge you will create a layout using a countdown method of items. I will list five different kinds of things (eg. elements, papers, photos) for you to use in your layout. Every month there will be five new items for you to use. And for this month, the summer is winding down, school is on the horizon, so what better month to relax in than August!

5 - Flowers
4 - Ribbons/Strings
3 - Strips of paper (any size)
2 - Alphas or fonts
1 - Picture of a relaxing thing or activity

You are welcome to use more than these items (eg. 2 pictures instead of 3 is fine) just as long as you meet the required list and numbers asked for each. An example is seen below.

Die Cut Challenge - By Dianedi (Diane)

Paper  Scrapbooking

On Hiatus

Digi Do-Able Challenge - By Smiley-Scrap8 (Ronny)

Digital Scrapbooking

Get the August Template, based on an original layout by scrappininAK,  free in the digi shoppe and use it to create your layout!

My example:

Fashion Findings Challenge - By happayscrappay (Rachel)

Paper or Digi

From head to toe, the fashion world is gaga for feathers! I have pink feathers in my hair. For the August Fashion Findings Challenge, you need to create a page or a project that has feathers on it. The feathers can be real feathers, pictures of feathers, drawings of feathers, or feathers you made out of paper! Color isn't important either; your feathers can be black, white, red, hot pink, striped...there is no limit. Hope you have a fun time being fashion conscious with this challenge!

Rachel's example:

Heritage Challenge - By JanetM (Janet)

Paper AND Digital Scrapbooking

Dapper times and dapper days: It always seemed like everyone was dressed up years ago. I want this month's challenge to showcase some fun fashions from the years gone by.

Hybrid Challenge - By Smiley-Scrap8 (Ronny)

Paper AND Digital Scrapbooking

Use a digital kit to make and print a label. Whether it's school or sports or organizing your scrappy stuff, digi kits are great for making cool or cute tags. I used the new Love My Stinker kit by Bella Gypsy to make this tag for my dd's Taekwondo equipment. Check it out:

Journaling Challenge - By Jenn Kellams (Jenn)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

On Hiatus

Manufacturer Challenge - By 4peasinourpod (Pam)

Paper Scrapbooking

This month I decided that I would pick the company that I liked the most at CHA... even if we had recently done them. ;)

My choice... CRATE PAPER!

Here is a layout using an older line (School Spirit), but I cannot WAIT for the new ones to be in the Shoppe!

Music Challenge - By Mommybruno (Cassie)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

I'm challenging you this month to scrap a musical event - concert, recital, festival, etc. What fun musical activities can you scrap? For me, it was my first big concert way back in 1990 - Milli Vanilli! Don't worry if you don't have ticket stubs, playbills or even pics - I used an album cover downloaded from the internet and a cassette tape to help set the mood. Let's see what you come up with!

One Word Challenge - By Mommybruno (Cassie)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

For this month's One Word Challenge, I'm leaving the word choice to you. There are two rules, though. First, you must use the word as your title. Second, you must choose a word that reminds you of someone close to you. I had a lot of choices here, to be honest - for example, my son created the word Mysticious - but after a phone conversation with my grandpa I just knew I had to use "hudyacall." So what words do you associate with the people in your life?

Photography Challenge - By nun69 (Angie)

Photography

Can you believe it is already August? Well here in WA summer has alomst passed us by with so much cool weather, but we have managed to get some nice days and been able to get out and enjoy it. So show us what you do to stay cool in the summer. :)

Scraplift the GCT Challenge - By averys_mom and Carrie123 and megamay (Mandi and Carrie and Meg)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

This month the GCT is Retiree3! Go into her gallery and scraplift one of her pages!

Retiree3's LO:

Carrie's LO:

Sketch Challenge - By Kimandasmo (Cindy), 4peasinourpod (Pam), and CT

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

On Hiatus

Supply List Challenge - By SarahA (Sarah)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

This month, your mission is to use the color gray, squares and hand written journaling on a layout (digi girls can use a handwriting font). I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Theme Challenge - By ChrissyTina (Chrissy)

Paper or Digital Scrapbooking

August's theme is "silly/funny faces".

Trends & Techniques Challenge - By Megamay (Meg)

Paper Scrapbooking

I was just looking at my list of previous trends and techniques and I can't believe I didn't do baker's twine yet! Baker's twine is a huge trend! So, that is this month's trend - baker's twine. I will also accept jute twine (I am including a second example with what I call jute twine, so you can see what I mean). and if you don't have any baker's twine here is a tutorial on how to make your own! http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/make-your-own-bakers-twine/

I have bakers twine in pretty much ever color - I buy it in sampler packs. And I use it on everything! from wrapping around cards, to threading through buttons, to embellishments like in the card below.

Gallery Spotlight June and July 10 comments

Check out the scrapbook talent here!

Posted by Art_Teacher

Even though summer keeps many of us too busy to scrap, the Gallery here at A Cherry on Top is overflowing with gorgeus layouts and creative crafts!  The Creative Team has chosen a few of these wonderful designs to spotlight this month.  Please check out the Gallery and don't forget to leave the love!

Love to Paint by Rylea

Laura was drawn to this layout by the action-filled photo, as well as all the little embellishments and color. The design is wonderful, especially the little glittery handprints. What fun!

 ShadowBox by Cherry Tat

Angie says, "This little shadow box is simply fantastic! I LOVE that she not only decorated the inside, but the outside of the frame as well!"

 fun day by madscrappertoo

Carrie says, "This layout just screams fun...from the picture to the colors and design to every extra detail added. I love how every layout madscrappertoo does stands out. She really has a way with making them all so fun and colorful and this layout is the perfect example!"

 My Dad Rocks by Bethie

Kristianne picked this layout because she "loves the increddible layering & shadowing she has done here! A beautiful tribute to Dad, with a fitting title."  :D

 Let's Ride by scrappininAK

Angela loves the use of white space on this layout and how the journaling is done. All the fun embellishments (the little bicycles and arrows) are the perfect touch for the photos. Great layout and a great design.

Pour etre bien dans ses baskets by MicheleBeck

Megan chose this layout because she "loves all the funky details and bright colors."

 Girls' Night Out by Gine

Rachel loves the overall feminine look of this page by Gine with it's muted colors and the layering of embellishments and papers.

 Kirschernte by Marlen

Jennifer says, "Marlen does such a fantastic job of blending on her pages! This one has wonderful blending, a great grid going on with the pictures and some wonderful colours. How could you not love it?!"

Miss You by kristii

Jess chose this card for all the adorable and perfectly coordinated embellishments! She loves the combination of trends with the balloon, banner, and burlap.

 Hit the Hay by Susanne_79

Cassandra chose this LO because of the awesome action shot photo, which rightly dominates the page, and the hint of wood that shows beneath the coordinated papers that helps tie in to the farm feel. Love it!

 Gone too Soon by wheeliegirl

Janell says, "This is a beautiful tribute layout of Donna's grandmother Julia. The shadowing work is amazing and the layers of texture and patterned paper make this layout so exquisite!"

 Cousins by eksteigmeier

Ronny loves everything about this page. First the photo is just perfect, it really shows that family bond. The title work is superb, with such great shadowing it looks like you can reach out and touch it. And last the paper blocking really balances the whole design. Great work!

We hope you are as inspired by your fellow scrappers as we are.  Whenever the scrapper's block hits, just hit the A Cherry on Top Gallery!

Echo Park Splash 8 comments

Posted by 4peasinourpod

The beach.  Water.  Swimming pools.

*sigh*

Some of us have beaches readily available, some have pools, some have friends with one, other, or both.  There are swimming lessons, sand castles, pails and fish.  It is the one theme paper that I ADORE.

Echo Paper took it to the extreme with the Splash Collection

There is classic, there is cute, there is basic, there is extreme....all in one line.  The colors are PERFECT.  They match their dots and stripes line, which I totally LOVE.

When my kids are not in summer school, on a basketball court or a softball field, they are in water.  We are lucky to have water EVERYWHERE here in Lake Country, so photo opportunities are endless.

Here are my layouts:

I have a 13 year old.  Cutesy is so last year.  It is clean cut, colorful and simple.  It is Kendall and Katie :)  The circle paper was PERFECT for cutting out, inking and defining.

Then there is my eleven year old, that watches a little TOO much of "America's Next Top Model".   The upside for me, is that I can add a touch of the girly still to the layout.

Here is where the fun comes in.  Is there NOTHING more fun than a sprinkler in the summertime?  (Other than the beach and lakes and pools, of course!)  My "littles" were having the best time, and the Echo Park Papers were perfect for them!

The last layout is of Kiley and one of her friends that we took out to the lake. They are just genuine, kind, wonderful friends- so REAL. It was refreshing to see a friendship like that!

I cannot tell you how MUCH I LOVE this company, and this line.  It is economical, it is versatile, and I will have tons more to show you in the next week or so!!
