August Washi Challenge

Postby Charleneanne » Thu Aug 03, 2017 4:19 pm

ok this month we are going to quilt on our layout, but not with cloth and thread - instead with washi.    The quilt pattern I want you to use is called the log cabin.  You need a square in the center so if you do a layout, then use a 2", 3", 4" or 5" photo.   If you do a card perhaps just a 2" center using a stamped saying or a pretty flower or something like that.    I got this idea from a gal on pinterest however her stuff was a bit too fancy for me.  Here is a link to her tutorial if you like technique and fancy. http://stampinat6213.blogspot.com/2007/07/quilt-card-tutorial.html  Now on my log cabin quilt square, I prefer to go to each end and change colors going around the square.  Some folks prefer to put on the top and the bottom and then go to the sides to make it more uniform.  I also like to use to color tones but it can be any colors of washi you like.

Here are a couple examples of real cloth quilt squares in this pattern

And my page.  Sorry it is so dark but I have nowhere to take my photos right now the place is such a mess from the dang renovation.  sigh The bg pp is a pretty green and the washi is bright.

MUST HAVES
A layout or card with a log cabin quilt square made from washi.
The center square can be 2", 3", 4" or 5" but there must be a square in the center with the log cabin pattern around it.

Bonus if you do the two tone pattern like I did.

Great job with your washi 'quilting'!!  This will be fun, once I get the hang of it!

Well my friend, you came up with a good one this time.  I will try this but must tell you I have never quilted anything in my life but have to admit it's a neat idea!

I just typed all this stuff here and it disappeared!  Okay, so here goes again:  Here is my page for this fun challenge.  I used six different rolls of washi tape to create this cute page of my DGD and her love of the pool.  I made the required log cabin pattern, and framed out the entire page with strips of cardstock borders (helped to 'seal' the edges of the washi).  Thanks for the push....I will definitely do this again!   And I think  I qualify for the bonus with all the colors I used!

I'm on a roll with this log cabin pattern, so here is my second entry for the challenge.  I used 5 different washi tapes to create the pattern.
I combined with the August Card challenge.

I did make a pattern, but it doesn't look like the log cabin pattern. I will understand if this is not eligible for this challenge.

I hate to discourage anyone who does work as beautiful as this.  And I can imagine I see that you put four squares (log cabin style) together and put your photo in the spot where they come together, so . . . . . . . . . . . .  . .. .  .

For the Washi Challenge I used glitter tape in gold, silver and black to make my quilt square. My center is a 4" square. I am not sure if I qualify for the bonus or not. lol
