September Guest Designer Challenge #2 **winner**

Postby lissahope26 » Fri Sep 01, 2017 6:23 pm

Congrats to Scrappydistractions!  I will be submitting your name shortly for the gift certificate!

Let's chat about comfort zones.  I think we all have techniques that we are comfortable with.  What about the ones we are not comfortable with?  I have serious pains when it comes to stitching, misting, watercolors, pastes and stenciling.  As displayed in the layout below that I'm not entirely happy with the way it came out but keep in mind that I scrap on my bed (LOL).

So for this challenge I challenge you to use at least TWO techniques on your layout that is out of your comfort zone.  Be sure to list your two techniques that you used with your layout on this thread.  Techniques can be anything from paper tearing, inking, misting, mixed media, stenciling, sewing, distressing, pastes and the list goes on and on.
** I used stenciling, misting and inking in the above layout...all OUT of my comfort zone.

The Rules:
Limit one entry per person.
Open to layouts only, please.
I will choose a random winner from random.org for a $5 ACOT gift card.
Entries are due no later than 11:59pm EST on September 30th.

No combining allowed with other challenges.

Let's step out of our comfort zones!

Always good to try new things, or things we aren't sure about!  For me, it's stamping, layering, and white space!

I love your layout! You do amazing work scrapping on your bed! I couldn't do it- remember I have 4 doggies- and if I'm on the bed 1 or all 4 would be right there! Lol
Thanks for the challenge!

Thanks for the challenge!

We got a dog a couple of months ago.  He prefers me over anyone else in the house.  So if I'm sitting on my bed, he wants to be there to.  So I have a Scrapping buddy that just sleeps while I scrap.  lol

But I don't think that would work with 4 doggies.

Love this challenge and love your example.  And even though I have a whole room, I usually end up scrapping on a tiny little space on "the pull out thing" (I know it has a name but I am brain tired right now) for my keyboard because I can see my monitor and TV.  If I am at my scrapbook desk, I can't see my computer and my back faces the TV.

Tried misting with a white iridescent ink and you can hardly see it - definitely need more practice and more colors. Also used part of a transparency that is difficult to attach to the page - spray adhesive seemed to work. My other techniques included inking the edges of PP creating contrast and dimension and using a circle template to cut a circle of PP. Thanks for the technique challenge!

Postby ScrappyDistractions » Mon Sep 04, 2017 2:15 pm

So I have had several photos from a scrapbook show that I didn't know how to use.  I RARELY scrap more than 1 or 2 photos - I panic and think it looks busy or too Project Life-like (not that that is bad, just not me).  But after months of not scrapping I decided I needed to take a break from the farm, work, house, college searches for my DD, etc.  So I pulled out my stuff yesterday afternoon, piled it all into the living room, and came to my favorite place for inspiration - ACOT Challenges!   When I saw this challenge I thought "OK - enough is enough, Lisa.  Get over your fear of scrapping multiple photos!"  I also decided to revisit the whole Liquid Pearls thing and see if I could do something with them so I created a dotted border strip.

Thanks for the inspriation, Melissa!

Here's mine using techniques that are out of my comfort zone. I used Gelatos, Stenciling, and Stamping. I'm not very comfortable using any of those although I try to stencil and stamp now and then mostly for challenges. LOL It's been a long time since I pulled out the Gelatos.

For the GD Challenge #2 Comfort Zones I used:
1. Misting
2. Stencil (hexagon)
3. Ribbon (checked)
I have a terrible time with all 3 trying to figure out where and how much to use. I have a ton of ribbon and can never figure out where to put it.lol

Great challenge! I do need to "get out of the box" on occasion! LOL!
My no-comfort zone (lol) things are misting, stenciling/masking (whatever this is - I used doilies and sprayed around them) and frankly I also struggle with white space. I never know when to leave well enough alone. The two doily spots kind of gave me areas to embellish and then that's it! LOL!

Happy Scrapping!
