Easy Diagonal Design
Welcome back to the Cherry Blog! Today, I thought I’d illustrate how to create a diagonal design layout using this stunning patterned paper from Heidi Swapp Carefree called Sunset. Using the existing diagonal flow of the watercolor background as a guide, I’ve created a floral base for my photos in the same direction.
These florals are fussy cut from a beautiful Maggie Holmes' Garden Party patterned paper called Blooming and are perfect for capturing the sweet, unexpected moments of childhood. I love the slightly vintage feel to these florals, while still filled with bright and happy colors.
Once I positioned my florals into a diagonal design, I added small clear stickers from the Garden Party sticker book in a few open areas to give a stamped look, then tucked in puffy hearts from the Icons & Phrases Thickers set. These pops of black add a fun contrast to the bright colors as well as tie in the darker areas of the photos with the overall design.
I kept my title simple, just adding a “Wonderful You” banner from the Icons & Phrases sticker sheet as well as this sweet puffy bow below it. This keeps the focus on my photos and doesn’t break the diagonal design of the florals. My journaling tucks in just below the title and then I added Nuvo drops and gold ink splatters as a finishing touch.
I hope this project inspired you to check out these beautiful collections from Maggie Holmes and Heidi Swapp! See the full process video below:
