Layering with HEIDI SWAPP 25 comments

How to layer with paper, lace and diecuts

What a fun surprise I got when I opened my Creative Team box this month! I mean, yes, I know I ordered the Heidi Swapp papers, but what I didn’t know is that some of them had die cuts in the middle of the pages! This turned into a whole different theme for me when I saw the options for layering with all of Heidi’s fun new products. Have I ever told you what a genius I think Heidi Swapp is?

Layering just happens to be one of my favorite things about scrapbooking. Choosing ways to enhance beautiful papers by adding just the right touch of lace, ribbon, diecuts , flowers or gems just makes this hobby so much fun for me. I’ll admit that I’ve even been known to see just how many layers I can add to a project just to challenge myself!

For my first project,  So Blessed, I used one of the diecut papers, but decided to leave it flat. If you look very closely to the left edge, you can see where you could pop those flowers out of the page and play even more. I layered one of the border strips on top, added my photo, some lace and another layer of pompoms over that. I topped it all off with a few of the diecuts sprinkled with some KaiserCraft gems.

Next, on I Will Cherish You, I decided to use the diecuts in the paper. All of the butterflies on this page, are already cut so you can lift them out of the background page. I layered some fun pink papers underneath them to highlight the pink in my photo.  This lace from Fancy Pants added some prettiness to the page because I could run the sequined ribbon through it. Most of the titles on my cards and layouts this month came from some of the diecut stickers…Heidi’s words are so perfect to add to journaling or make titles from!  And did I mention that these papers come with a tear off border of diecuts???? Gorgeous!  I layered a few of those diecuts for my title cluster, added a few flowers that I had inked and then covered everything sticking up on the page with Stickles glitter for some shimmer!

On I Hope You Dance, I just had to highlight these adorable photos of my niece Chloe wearing Jessica’s old tutu! The diecut flourish background is the perfect setting for them. Of course, I wanted to add a splash of pink, so I added a layer of embossed paper cut from the borders paper. I love to use lace or ribbon over my paper edges to create softness on my pages, so that is just what I’ve done here…takes away those sometimes harsh edges of a layer splitting the page. The diecut butterfly comes  from one of those page borders I was telling you about earlier! The KaiserCraft pearls are the perfect layer to top it all off!

For my last layout, I got away from soft and girly to share some old photos of my kids from a Hawaiian vacation in 2000. Heidi does a great job with these sunny, fun papers! Again, the sun in the upper left is already cut to pop out from the page, the green and blue strip is a border cut from a page full of borders and I’ve layered the diecuts over my ricrac “water” for a fun tropical feel. A little bling tops it all off and ties in the color from the title!

I also made a few cards this month, layering more of the borders and diecuts with ribbon, lace and flowers. I shared the first one during the crop for my Mother's Day card. The top border on each card is what I’d really like you to take a look at…Heidi has these borders on a full page. They come white, and you can ink them to whatever colors work for you…just one more fun way to layer on a page!

I’ve used the following products for these projects:
