Join me in welcoming Renee as our featured guest for the month of March. She has been an active member of the message board and a contributor to the gallery ever since I can remember. You can view her awesome gallery here.
Here is a LO about her:
Tell us about your family.
Adam and I have been married for 6 1/2 years and we have 1 son, Alex! We also have 3 furbabies...Scooter & Annabelle are chihuahuas and Toby is a beagle.
How long have you been scrapbooking and what got you started?
I started scrapping in 1999. I went to a CM party and was hooked. I signed on as a demonstrator but that didn't last long because there were so many other products out there that I wanted to use in my albums. In 2005, after Alex was born I fell in love with scrapbooking all over again.
What inspires you?
I find inspiration in everyday things...a song, a photo, the amazing work in the gallery, sketches, and layouts that my family and friends do. Lately I've been feeling inspired by music lyrics. Sometimes I use them as my title or as my journaling. There's something in music that sometimes just says it all.
How do your family and friends feel about your scrapbooking?
I'm finding the older Alex gets he really likes looking back at his baby pictures and having me tell him about what we're doing in the photos. I guess that's really why I do it...for him. Adam is supportive as well and is always there when I want to show off my newest creation! Lucky for me most of my friends are scrappers too...so, they have the same addiction. haha
How did you find A Cherry on Top?
I was shopping here way back when it was Stickers Galore!
How long have you been a part of the ACOT community?
I've been a part of the community for a long time, it was still Stickers Galore when I first started visiting here. I wasn't really active a whole lot because I was working so much but since I've been able to stay home, I am a pretty active member.
How did you pick your screen name?
My parents actually picked it. haha It's kind of boring...just my first name.
Do you have a favorite manufacturer/product line?
I'm totally into the cutesy stuff! Doodlebug, Bo Bunny, We R Memory Keepers...stuff like that.
What scrapbooking item can’t you live without?
Oh, wow...just one? Well, I'd have to say cardstock...and LOTS of it! There's so much you can do to cardstock (tear it, ink it, sand it, make funky shapes out of it, make paper piecings) It's very versatile
What is a favorite technique that you like to use?
I'd have to say inking. I swore I'd never do it...I know, famous last words. I think it can give a page dimension and that little extra oomph. Sometimes it just give it a more complete feeling.
When and where do you create your layouts?
I'm lucky enough to have my own scrappy room at home. Alex and I share a space...his playroom / my scraproom. I agree not to play with his toys if he doesn't mess with my supplies. I usually scrap after Alex is in bed. I've been known to stay up into the wee hours of the morning once I get going on a project.
What is a favorite layout of yours and why?
It changes all of the time but my most recent favorite is "Christmas Kid." I did that one during the Feb. Crop. The journaling is from the heart and I love seeing Christmas through Alex's eyes. He's in awe of everything Christmas, from Santa to the twinkling lights on the houses in town. I just want him to remember the excitement of the Holiday Season and how much more we enjoy the holidays through his eyes.
How would you define your style?
Gosh, I'm not sure. I guess a lot of my pages have clean lines. Is that a style? LOL
What is your ultimate goal in scrapbooking?
Lately I've been trying to put more thoughts and emotion in my journaling. I want my layouts to tell a story so one day when Alex can read these pages himself it will tell him something, not just state facts. For awhile I was more focused on getting the pictures on the paper rather than the meaning behind the layout.
Any other hobbies?
I like baking and I would love to take a cake decorating class. A friend recently bought me "Hello Cupcake" (a cupcake decorating book) I've tried making a couple of the cupcakes but they don't look anything like they do in the book. That's ok though...it's still fun!
