Recently, I have been trying to incorporate my overabundance of scrapbooking supplies into more than just scrapbook layouts. I love seeing those pretty papers, cool embellishments and fun products in other places than just my scrapbook pages or my storage bins. I spend way more time than I should shopping for the perfect supplies and love incorporating them into home decor projects that can be seen all of the time.
When I first saw these Fancy Pants frames, I knew they would be perfect for decorating our walls. I also knew that my scrapbooking supplies would be the perfect additon to transform them into works of art. I liked the idea of being able to add dimension to the projects while displaying some of my favorite photos.
Fancy Pants made their "On Display" frames in 4 different sizes: a 6x8 frame, an 8x8 frame, an 18x9 frame and large window frame. There are 2 different colored finishes for the frame: black and white. Each comes with a clear acrylic piece in the center of the frame. You can adhere your photos and embellishments on the outside of the frame or the inside.
My Somewhere Over the Rainbow:
The first frame I made was an 8"x8" black frame. I chose to add my papers and embellishments on top of the acrylic since they were dimensional. Our walls are currently all white so I decided to leave the background clear. When you hang the frame up, the white shows through and adds more to the dimension of the frame. I cut out the cute rainbow and sunshine from a piece of the "On a Whimsey" patterned paper by Fancy Pants. I cut out a second rainbow and attached it with pop dots so my rainbow had dimension. I handsewed some yellow buttons on my sunshine. I added my title against the rainbow. I used a journaling spot from the Summer Soiree Journaling book as the matte for my photo. I also made the flower attached to the corner of the frame using loops of the gorgoeus Summer Soiree striped ribbon. I adored this photo of my daughter and I and the frame now proudly hangs in my scrapbook room. The pretty colors, products, and photo always make me happy when I look at it.
A Night To Remember
The next frame I used was 18"x9" and also had a black finish. I chose both black frames because our walls are white. I knew a white frame would clash. If you were planning on painting the frame, I think a white frame would be better to start with.
The size of this frame lends itself to a design similar to a 2 page layout design. I deceided to use some photos I had of my daughter and husband at the recent Dazzling Daddy-Daughter Dance. It was a really exciting night for all of us and I loved the photos of them together. I chose some products in pink and black to match the photos. The Doodlebug Sugar Coated Cardstock is really pretty in person and has the perfect amount of glimmer. When I added it on top of the acrylic in the center of the frame, you can see that glimmer every time you look at the frame. I also used some gorgeous black felt made by Anna Griffin. It is really soft and the contrast in texture isn't lost under a piece of glass in a regular frame. You can really see it with these Fancy Pants frames. I also embellished a Fancy Pants chipboard crown with some of the same Doodlebug Sugar Coated Cardstock and some Kaisercraft pearls. I added a title to the crown as well. It now proudly hangs on my wall.
