Here at the end of February, some of us are still documenting Valentine’s Day. There are many pretty collections for this sort of project—it’s hard to choose! I landed on Simple Stories Happy Hearts, and the colors and motifs were perfect for the celebratory mood I wanted to capture. I used two of the papers to mat my selfie of us with the fancy cake that Tim bought as a surprise.
On the facing page, I used one of the cards from the 3x4 elements paper. I love the way it captures the flowers, sweets, and cards or letters that traditionally make Valentine’s Day so much fun. It also grounds the spread with its dark background color. To both my card and matted photo, I applied a little of the playful washi from the collection. Above my photo, I created a title with alphabet stickers, stamps, and a die-cut. I love making collaged titles of this sort, and the cardstock of “blessed” provides a bit more dark color for contrast and grounding.
The label paper from Happy Hearts adds a romantic touch with its vintage-book flower illustrations, and I love that there is such a great abundance of labels on the sheet to use on a variety of projects. I typed on a couple of the labels for my journaling, and I cut the date from the word-fetti on the reverse of this paper. The puffy stickers are delightful! I chose a few to dress up my photo page, and on the facing page, I adhered the camera puffy sticker, anchored by a bit of angled washi, to draw attention to my journaling. I hope this gives you a few ideas if you’re creating love-themed projects as you get February in your scrapbooks!
Jil Larson
Hello everyone, I’m Jil Larson, a new member of the design team. I’m excited to share my projects with you! I’ve been scrapbooking and art journaling for many years now. I first started memory keeping when my nieces (now in their 20s) were little girls and I was looking for a way to tell stories about them and the art they created. From there, my love for this wonderful hobby grew and developed. As a life-long diary and notebook lover, I’ve also recently been enjoying creative play in sketchbooks and journals.
Hello Happy Sunday!
Today I created a page in my memory planner using up some Simple Stories Happy Hearts Collection. Since this is the last week in February, I thought I would use some last bits of hearts and extra lovey dovey products before I put it away. I love that some of the papers and stickers from this collection can be used all year long!
I created a side opening flap for my journaling using pattern paper, two brads, and some twine. I stitched on the top and bottom to secure it on the journaling. Then I added a puffy sticker and called it done. Now my journaling is kept a bit more private. :)

Hello crafty friends! Jody Compton here, the guest designer for February! Today I am highlighting an easy way to make a big impact in your Traveler’s Note Book. I am using the beautiful Fernwood collection by Vicki Boutin. The Cherry On Top Crafts store still has plenty in stock!
I started by fussy cutting the amazing flower element on the paper titled Notebook Paper. It has amazing color and so much movement in the flowers that I knew I had to use it!
First, I started with white cardstock and took a stencil from the Fernwood collection and used a little gold paste to create a shiny background. Gold is a great accent color that is in the collection.
Next, I added the large floral piece to encompass both pages. I love how the flowers look like they are reaching for the second page.
I printed two small photos of a recent trip. I promised myself to get in front of the camera more! I added a few layers behind the photos of black and white help keep those flowers vibrant.
A few finishing details of gold chipboard hearts and the date ties my spread altogether.
Thank you so much for your time, I hope you are inspired to use a large element in your next project!
