My Adventures In Brush Lettering  1 comments

By Sara Mishler

Hello Everyone! Sara with you today! One creative talent I have always admired is brush lettering. I just love watching others write beautiful words. In the scrapping community, I have always loved the result that fellow DT member Jennie McGarvey and YouTuber Jen Schow achieve by adding some hand lettering to their projects. I decided with the colder months coming, it was time to commit to some products and give it a try.

Here are the products I chose:

Beginner Lettering SetSmall Brush Workbook - Kelly CreatesMetallic Jewel - Kelly Creates Small Brush Pens

I am so glad I bought the workbook! Initially, I wanted to watch videos to learn how to write, but I am left-handed and I don't hold a pen in the same way many left-handed people do. So the videos were a bust and I had to go it alone. The workbook gives tips throughout. The most important thing to remember is when you are doing a downstroke, apply more pressure on the brush and less pressure on the upstroke. This is something that begins to feel more natural as you practice.

I am also glad that I chose to learn with a small brush. Over the course of all the practicing, I did try a traditional brush pen but found it hard to maneuver in my small hands. The larger brush pens, like the Tombow Duel Brush Pens, will be good once I get more practice with the smaller pen and go on to write titles on my layouts.

Of all the pens I got to try, the one that feels the best in my hand and the one I have been using over and over again is the MONO twin permanent marker in the lettering set. I can get the thick and thin lines, it's a really nice size for my hand, and it is the one I reach for when I practice. I also like the pens from Kelly Creates and I especially love the fun colors for future projects when I start to create them. I can't wait to start adding lettering to scrapbook layouts, cards, tags, and I'm sure many more places will come up once I have the basic skills down.

The best piece of advice I can give you is practice, practice, practice! I am loving this workbook, all the tips and all the paper is included to make learning easy. You could continue to use the pages in the workbook by adding a piece of tracing paper over the pages. I practice a little each night, usually while watching TV, while I train my hands and teach myself some new skills. It's a relaxing thing to practice and I like to keep my hands moving.

I'll be back again with a lettering update soon! Have A Lovely Day!

-Sara

XOXO Valentine's Day Card

By Channin Pelletier

Hello crafty friends! It’s Channin here and today I’m creating a bright and cheery Valentine’s card featuring several products from Pinkfresh Studio.

To create this card I first hot-foiled a panel of white cardstock with the Modern Design Blocks hot foil plate in Aura foil. I then foiled the leftover foil with the Solid hot foil plate onto white cardstock and then set the panel aside.

Next, I ink blended over the first panel with the Modern Design Blocks stencils and several Pinkfresh Studio inks (Clementine, Passion Fruit, Bubble Gum, Berrylicious and Raspberry Bliss). When I finished ink blending the panel I trimmed it down to 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” and adhered it to the front of an A2 top-folding white card base (4 1/4” x 11”; scored at 5 1/2”).

I then hot foil another panel of white cardstock with the Nested Rectangles hot foil plates in Aura. I then die cut the frame with the Nested Rectangles coordinating cuts and adhered the frame to the card front with foam adhesive.

Next, I die cut “XOXO” (both layers) out of white cardstock with the Jeff Alpha dies. I then adhered the layers together with foam adhesive and then adhered them to the card front. Next, I stamped a sub-sentiment from the Beyond Measure stamp set in Versamark embossing ink. I poured gold embossing powder over the sentiment and heat-set it. Next, I trimmed the sentiment down to a strip and then adhered it to the card front with foam adhesive.

I die-cut the second foiled panel with the smallest heart die from the Nesting Hearts Dies twice to create two gold hearts and adhered them to the card front with foam adhesive. Lastly, I finished the card by adhering two Sparkling Champagne Metallic Pearls to the hearts.

I hope you enjoyed my card. Thank you so much for stopping by!

~Channin

Channin Pelletier

Hello! I’m Channin Pelletier and I live in sunny Arizona with my husband and our two sweet daughters. I’m a long-time stamper and paper crafter. I actually started paper crafting back in junior high by carving my own stamps from erasers to make handmade cards and scrapbook pages. However, over the years, cardmaking has definitely become my favorite crafty hobby!  It’s difficult for me to nail down my style, I’m a bit of a chameleon! I love clean and simple designs, coloring flowers and critters, and even constructing interactive cards! But overall I love trying to come up with designs that are unique or unexpected!

I’d love it if you would check out my YouTube channel, Blog, Gallery, or follow me on Instagram!!
