If your paper punch is getting dull and leaving behind soft and fuzzy edges, just follow these easy steps and your punch will be as good as new! Sometimes even new punches need some conditioning before use to get the best results.
What you’ll need: Tin foil, Wax Paper, Very Fine Sandpaper
Tin Foil – Fold in half, then in half again. Punch several times through the multiple layers. This will sharpen your punch for a clean cut every time.
Wax Paper – Fold in half with the waxy side out. Punch several times through the multiple layers. This will lubricate your punch for easier release of the punched pieces.
Fine Sandpaper – Use with caution and as last resort. Punching through fine sandpaper will sharpen your punch, but with over-use it may also ruin the punch edges.
If your punch tends to jam, try placing in the freezer for a short time. This will shrink the metal making it easier to use.
