X-Men: First Class (DVD)

In 1962, the United States government enlists the help of Mutants with superhuman abilities to stop a malicious dictator who is determined to start world war III. And so it begins - we are introduced to Professor Charles Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and the other "originals," including a cameo by Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). We learn how they got their names, what led to the bitter mutant rivalry, how the humans discovered and then turned against them, and how some preservered, hoping to make the world a better place even when they knew they would never be accepted.

James McAvoy played the young Charlies Xavier to perfection, young and full of hope, and Michael Fassbender took on the role of Magneto. Kevin Bacon is brilliant as the original villain, Sebastian Shaw. Jennifer Lawrence was lovely and vulnerable as a young Mystique and Nicholas Hoult was the perfect counterpart as Beast.

With the perfect mix of dialog and action for an origins story, which is always tricky because of the backstory that needs to be built for each character (and we have quite a few to care about here), X-Men: First Class delivers as an action hero movie while answering questions that fans of the series might have. Special effects are fantastic and the make-up artistry for each of the characters is beautiful.

Loved it! Was a great intro to the characters! A great beginning and the actors did well I think!
