Broken Bones

Post by Shutterbug » Tue May 31, 2016 9:22 pm

In April I went to my normal Podiatry diabetic checkup. I have had a lump on my foot it has been there since last summer.  It had improved then I noticed it was getting worse again.  They decided they needed to x-ray.  I have some broken bones on the side of my foot.   I have been in a boot since then.  The doctor did not want to wait but due to some other health issues.    Well tomorrow they will go in and clean up the mess, Do a bone graph from my ankle, put in a plate and a pin. I will have to be non weight bearing for 8 - 20 weeks.  I am grateful that they are not doing a full foot reconstruction at this point I may have to have that done in the future. On Both feet.   So this will be quite an adjustment over the next several months. There are going to be quite a few adjustment over here over the next few months.  Yes, I am nervous.  My sweet dad is Staying 2 weeks longer to be here with us.   They talked about putting me into a  nursing care facility. I am so grateful I can come home.  They doctor agreed to a wheelchair at home... Since I live in a wheelchair accessible apartment.     I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this time.    Looks like I get to use the Wheelchair Stickers I bought  ummmm probably 12 years ago or so.

Kimber, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  I'm glad you get to be at home rather than a facility.

Oh my GOSH!!!  So sorry to hear all this!!!  Wow.  Did you get a second opinion?  I know diabetics have issues with feet/bones/etc., but I'll be darned if I'd let a podiatrist make that kind of decision, and my son's best friend IS a podiatrist!  I just think it seems like it's setting you up for more complications.  I'd see an orthopedic surgeon first!!  Then if he says he agrees, you know it's what's necessary!

Oh no!  Well, at least you can use up your stickers now. JK.

Have you been walking around with broken bones for the past year?  Yikes!!!

I saw that you had the surgery on another post.  I hope you make full, quick and painless as possible recovery.
