WYR 10-19

Post by Flasher » Mon Oct 19, 2020 9:52 am

Good morning, Cherries!

Would you rather have an apple tree or an orange tree growing in your yard?

I would love an orange tree but it wouldn't last in the weather I have... I have an apple tree :)

An apple tree.  An orange tree just wouldn't make it with the climate I have.

When I was a kid we had this gigantic crab apple tree in our front yard. But, instead of producing those cute little crab apples, it produced giant ones. And they were so sour, you couldn't cook with them, even the bugs didn't want them. Everyone who came to the house asked if they could eat them, and we told them they weren't edible. So, they rotted on the tree and fell on the ground. The branches on the gigantic tree were were near the ground and my Dad couldn't get under there to pick them up, so that unpleasant task was mine. Crawling around under the tree to pick up gigantic smelly rotten apples. After I went to college, my parents had the tree removed.

Anyway, thats a long way of saying, I will need have an apple tree, they have perfectly good apples at the farm stores. SO, I chose orange.

An Orange tree wouldn't survive in our climate. So, I am going with apple. We actually use to have one in our backyard, until it was mostly dead and we had it taken down.

I would prefer an apple tree. Where I live you see all kinds of citrus trees growing in people’s yards but had apple tree growing up and liked it. Also nasty fig tree. Ick. I was the kid who had to clean up under that thing. Oh and we had a lovely peach tree too. Grew up in the country obviously. lol

Apple tree here as we already have 2. This year the first tree we planted actually had apples. We are hoping that next year the other tree will also have apples, as it is only a year younger. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

Tried to grow an orange tree but had so many problems with the irrigation that we only ever got 7 oranges off it over the many years we had it. It’s firewood now, LOL

my hubs loves apples, so if we could grow a honey crisp, that would be awesome.

(we have a grapefruit tree that has the juiciest ruby reds, and lots of them, we share with all the neighbors and friends)

We had apples, pears and plums when I was a kid.  I would love to have any of these, but choose apples over oranges.

Hmmmm.... I had a crab apple but it died last year 😞
It’s not warm enough here for oranges.
