when taking photos of your layouts....

Post by JillinIN » Fri Sep 21, 2018 4:23 pm

I've noticed some layouts in the gallery are perfectly square and straight.
When I use my digital camera, I can get pretty close to that, but with my cell phone (which is quicker) I cannot get it straight to save my life.

What are your tips, tricks and secrets for getting your layout photos to look so amazing?

I usually scan rather than photograph, but regardless of which method, I straighten and trim in PhotoShop.

I have an iPhone and usually take a square picture of it then just crop off any excess.

I try to take a straight one with my camera but that doesn't happen much. I try to straighten them but I'm not so good at that either so I guess I can't help you at all Jill. Sorry!

I also use my iPhone, but I edit through Picasa. I lay my page on the floor and stand above it, but watch out for shadows. Then I upload to Picasa and then I can straighten it and crop it as many times as I need to get it right.

Yeah, I use my scanner on my paper layouts and digi layouts are just jpegs, so they are always straight. ;)  One trick that works pretty well, though, if taking photos, is to put your layout on a wall that is getting direct light from a window (actually an overcast day is best, because sunlight washes things out), and have it at eye level, so you can line up your camera with it.  Just a thought, if you don't want to straighten, etc.

Thanks everyone!!!
I usually crop and straighten, but one end of my layout, with my phone will be more narrow that the other. I know it's user-error.. lol

There were a  lot of great ideas here. Thank you, everyone for sharing!!
