Do you scrap events or stories?

Post by lauraalberts » Sat Jun 15, 2019 12:44 am

For many years now, I’ve been a devoted event scrapper. Every year, I scrap every holiday, trip to the zoo, family gathering, etc. After 20 years, I’m feeling a draw to the story style of scrapping and have been experimenting with it in my kids’ individual albums and I love it! However, I wonder if I will regret switching from events to stories? Anyone given this shift a go? What do you think?

I do both when I can remember the story. I didn’t scrap when my two younger were small so I struggle to remember those details.

I do both and am getting better at even writing a story to the event.  After scrapping for over 20 years I have had to change my thoughts and layout process.  I try to have me layouts all look different even if the same event years apart.   I put WAY TO MUCH THOUGHT into the process, lol

I also do both, with the exception of holidays -- I do outings, reunions, ceremonies, appointments, etc., but very few holidays.  For me, I prefer the day-to-day photos and the story of why we wound up taking them.

I don't feel like I have that many 'events' to scrap. I do, however, have lots of everyday photos to which I try to tell the story to those shots, no matter how short that story is.

I definitely do both. Events and holidays are great to document but I love the everyday stories and capturing and preserving those moments.

I guess I mostly scrap events, because I never seem to have my camera out to take photos of the day-to-day stories.  I wish I did better at it, because I love when I have old photos and can tell the story.

Thank you for these great responses! I’m finding far more joy in scrapping those everyday moments and the reflective stories from the past than events and holidays, but I just feel this responsibility to record EVERYTHING for my kids, does that makes sense?

both. These days I mostly scrap vacations and sports because my kids are teenagers, but when there is a good story, I always scrapped it. Often I use the journaling of the story with the photos from the event or from an adjacent event.

I do both - some big events, holidays are kind of rare. Then I throw in some random story pics

I do both. I started scrapping chronologically 21 years ago, lots of stories told and yet to tell. I've veered off on several vacation albums over the years and more recently have just worked on pages I'm in the mood to work on. Even when I'm scrapping events, I'm still telling the story.

I do both. Seems like I'm always taking photos of everyday things, events, holidays, vacations, etc. :)

I do both - but prefer to do the every day stories, even if they are bad. I scrap big events like vacations, holidays, etc - but my real focus lately has been on the stories.  I want to be able to look back and remember the little things.

I try not to overthink my scrapping. I do both, and sometimes at the same time.
For example,in January we were in Disney's Animal Kingdom, and I snapped a photo of my college age niece staring off at the scenery. But when I got home, I realized she was bored, lol. We were listening to the end of a very close bowl game and she was passing the time with a latte. So while the story was part of the trip that day to the Animal Kingdom, it was more about a different kind of lion that were playing football.
