This was one of my first favorite books! It was a favorite because it was the first time I was able to make a mental image of what I was reading! I got so excited! I was reading about the snowstorm and suddenly I got the image in my head—granted I pictured our old street and the school right down the block—but the point was the words I was reading sparked an image in my head!!! That’s all it took--I was hooked on reading!
Now, many years later, I have my Master’s degree in Remedial reading and Language Arts.
Everyday I try to help ignite this same passion and excitement within my students…
I hadn’t thought of this book in years, until during one of my graduate classes when we were discussing books from our childhood. A good friend in class actually went online and purchased this used copy for me after I shared my childhood memory. Rereading it now, it
isn’t as great as I remember. To be honest I think I loved it because it was the
first time I could “SEE!”
