Art Day – Stamperia Bauhaus

For those of you who include trips to art museums in your travel itinerary or staycation plans, Stamperia’s Bauhaus collection is one to check out for documenting adventures with art. On our recent road trip, we spent an afternoon at the Cincinnati Art Museum, and I printed two photo collages representing a sample of what we saw. The collage seemed to work well with the art collage paper I chose from the 8×8 Stamperia paper pad. 

I love the greens and deep reds and blues in the Bauhaus designs, and I wanted to do a little coordinating mixed media on a white background, so I selected Vicki Boutin’s metallic texture paste released with Sweet Rush. The colors are a nice match, especially when mixed together a bit. I spread the paste through a 6X6 stencil designed by Julie Balzer for The Crafter’s Workshop (TCW), Striped Triangles. In the upper left of the page, I used quite a bit of the stencil surface, repeating this process with less at the bottom and just a touch of the stripes on the right side. 

From there I decided to design my page following a loose grid: two photo blocks and one large block of the cool Bauhaus paper on the bottom to ground the design. I love the fabric in this collection, so I bunched and stitched a rectangle of it above the paper square. Part of the journaling is under the fabric, which makes the layout just a bit interactive and encourages the viewer to touch the fabric and thus thoroughly enjoy the texture of the page. 

I used a little more of the paper along the right side. My green tickets were cut from 49 and Market paper and tucked under two of the blocks in my grid. I always like to combine a collection with a little bit from my stash. The Bauhaus alphabet stickers are printed to match the paper, and I loved creating a short title with them to place in the middle of my layout, just above the handwritten journaling. I used a tiny punch to include a few dots of the paper here and there. I also stamped a little bit (lines of stars, circles) in ink colors that matched my paper, using Tim Holtz’s Eccentric set from Stampers Anonymous. A scattering of star-shaped enamel dots in different sizes along with a splatter of black ink complete my page. It came together quickly because this awesome, art-inspired line from Stamperia did most of the work with its color and design.

Hello everyone, I’m Jil Larson, a new member of the design team. I’m excited to share my projects with you! I’ve been scrapbooking and art journaling for many years now. I first started memory keeping when my nieces (now in their 20s) were little girls and I was looking for a way to tell stories about them and the art they created. From there, my love for this wonderful hobby grew and developed. As a life-long diary and notebook lover, I’ve also recently been enjoying creative play in sketchbooks and journals.
