Currently – Scrapbook Layout
There are so many wonderful new collections coming out right now! My goal for the 12×12 page I’m sharing today was to combine two that have caught my attention: 49 and Market’s Academia and Vicki Boutin’s Bold + Bright. I like the former because of its grunge and dark academia vibe, whereas the latter appeals to me because it’s so vibrant and cheerful. This might seem like an odd pair, but it was fun to mix the two.
I began with a beautiful wood slat paper from Academia, Fun Times. As a background on the sort of page I had planned, I knew most of its beauty would be covered up, but I love the parts that peek through on the final project, and this paper has very cool details along its edges. I printed four photos to represent the present moment and used the Bold + Bright alpha stickers for my title (“Now”). I defaulted to one of my go-to designs: the messy grid.
Even though I worked on each of the four squares separately and made each a bit different from the others, I unified the page by including a square from the Vicki Boutin Picnic Blanket paper on or under each of my matted photos. I made the lower left and upper right squares in the grid a bit more elaborate, using Academic washi paper under each photo mat. On these squares, I also had fun with the Bold + Bright washi combined with the vintage numbers and notebook paper edges on the Academia washi tape sheet set. These squares are about my running (complete with a red-faced selfie!) and my fountain pens and journals, so the sunny day clip (from the Bold + Bright die-cut paper clips) made sense on the lower right and the paper edges under the journal photos. Numbers seem appropriate for both subjects.
For the photo of Hazel, I simply matted it with dark green paper from Academia. Beneath my art journal photo, I included some bright blue from the Vicki Boutin collection to draw out the blue in the photo. Both of these parts of the grid were anchored with a little more washi. I thought the paint splats tape (from Bold + Bright) was especially fitting.
My finishing touches include labels from an older Simple Stories sticker book that I stamped, using a small alpha, for each subject. I used these stamps to add the date at the top of the page as well. The Bold and Bright die-cut clips include gold foil numbers, which I used to differentiate the subjects I’m exploring but also to unify the layout. My dog photo got a heart clip, too, for obvious reasons. I typed up a little journaling on another square from the Picnic Blanket paper and sprinkled on some sequins from Catherine Pooler (Jaipur and Wimbledon). For a little additional confetti, I stamped tiny flowers from the Winnie-the-Pooh stamp set (which I’ve been having fun with in my journal and planner).
And that’s my page. I like having this “currently” style of layout in my 12×12 album just to capture some texture of my everyday life. Hope you feel encouraged to do the same—or to experiment with mixing paper collections.
