Fun Fold Card

Hello, fellow Cherry crafters!

Emily back today with a cool new fold technique for you to try in your cardmaking projects! I really appreciated this fold technique because all it took was one extra fold, nothing too complicated. I used the beautiful new Simple Stories, Simple Vintage Life in Bloom line. Let me walk you through how this is done!

Fun Fold Card

First, pick the base paper for your card. Pick something that you are okay with covering up, because most of the base card gets covered (I didn’t realize this!). Measure out an A2 size card, which is 8.5 inches in width total, and 5.5 inches in height. You fold the card directly in half as usual, at 4.25 inches.

From here, you take the front fold of the card and fold that in half again (so that would be at 2 1/8 inch fold).

You’ll see from the top this forms a sort of triangle once folded.

At this point, I decided to get some cardstock for the inside of the card, where you can add the writing. I just adhered this onto the card with some Cherry Tape.

Next, I worked on the front of the card. For this type of fold, you will make a separate ‘front’ that adheres onto the fun fold we created. To do this, find some paper you enjoy – this will be the most seen & will act as the front of your card, so pick something you love! I chose the “Celebrate Life” paper. I just really loved the earthy tones of the green leaves and felt it went well with the phrase I was using for this card. I also measured out some teal paper to act as a border and to add some more stability to the front of the card. This would be 4.25 inches by 5.5 inches, I trimmed mine down a bit more to fit just the way I wanted.

Now the fun part! Take the base of the card you created (with the fun fold) and fold it backwards, so the inside of the card is facing upward.

From here, add the Cherry Tape to the fold that is now facing upward.

Now you can carefully add the front base you made to the fold of the card. It will pop up a little!

Next, decorate the front of your card! I chose to use some more of the “Dream On” paper I used as the base of my card, because I really liked it and didn’t realize how much of it would be covered when I started! I also used the Catherine Pooler stamp, “Just Soar” and used the saying “don’t just fly, soar.” I then added that saying onto the front of my card with some Cherry Dots to add some more dimension. I also completed the front of the card with brads.

What’s cool about this card is that it can be opened two ways. The first way is shown above, and the second way is show below. I decided I wanted to add some stickers to the second way of opening the card. Remember, feel free to add flat embellisments here, but you can’t use brads or anything with too much lift because it will affect the way you fold the card.

These stickers fit perfectly horizontally on the card. I then felt I wanted to add more to the back of the card (because I just enjoy it) so I found a cute saying from the Elements paper that read “just be you” and added that to the back. I also added some stickers that felt very uplifting, the whole theme of this card.

Here is the card completed:

I really hope you enjoyed this tutorial on how to do a different fold on a card! Please let me know in the comments if you try it, and if you like it! Also, check out below for a short video showing how the fold works!

Enjoy!
