Plant Scrapbook Layout
I recently stumbled upon a new plant shop, and I wanted to tell the story of losing my very old hoya plant that had lived with me in different homes over the years and of then finding a new hoya that I hope to have just as long. I’ve been intrigued lately by the combination of purple and green, and the new 49 and Market ARToptions Viken collection, which features a lovely mix of dusty violet and light and dark teals, was just what I was looking for as a backdrop for my photos of the cute shop and my new plant.
It might not be immediately evident how much I enjoyed using Distress Oxide inks when making this page. I inked up a manila tag with my colors using an ink blending tool. Then I die cut an alphabet (using Echo Park’s New Day Alphabet Pennant Banner dies) from the tag, which yielded small letters in a range of blues and greens. I glued these to 49 and Market tags, spelling out “plants” and “hoya.” Reverse tweezers are helpful here for placing these tiny letters.
I also used Distress ink to stamp the butterflies (Just Soar from Catherine Pooler), which I die cut before stamping. I combined Dusty Concord and Salvaged Patina distress oxide, and then softened the white cardstock with Speckled Egg, again using an ink blending tool. I stitched my butterflies to the page, one by each of the photos.
After typing my journaling on a tag that blends in with the background paper, I stitched that to the plant shop’s business card, added a bit of washi tape, and turned to the final embellishing of the page. Along the top, I created a small collage of fabric tape from the 49 and Market collection and plain washi tape from my stash. I added confetti around the page with the smallest butterfly in the Catherine Pooler set, sequins and epoxy stickers, buttons, and ink splatters in metallic purple. I used the new Tim Holtz Noteworthy stamps to stamp Lost and Found by my journaling, fitting because my story focused on saying goodbye to one hoya plant and hello to another.
The final result is a soft page with multiple photos and lots of details, but it all blends into the mellow, cool colors of the gorgeous background paper.

Jil Larson
Hello everyone, I’m Jil Larson, a new member of the design team. I’m excited to share my projects with you! I’ve been scrapbooking and art journaling for many years now. I first started memory keeping when my nieces (now in their 20s) were little girls and I was looking for a way to tell stories about them and the art they created. From there, my love for this wonderful hobby grew and developed. As a life-long diary and notebook lover, I’ve also recently been enjoying creative play in sketchbooks and journals.
