Can you recommend a GPS?
Hi Ladies,
Because I did not attend CHA, and therefore have cash in a dresser drawer that I was saving for that trip – I want to get a GPS. It can also be a write off for my Arbonne business, since I need to find the homes of my hostesses. I want to keep it in the $200 range.

I am totally open for recommendations – brand AND model number. My sister said she likes her Magellan, when I asked on Facebook, but did not tell me which. The other night I had a dream that we were lost in a city on foot, and I used the GPS in my purse to help us find where we were going. Waking up my first thought was – oh I should get that feature. But then I really woke up and asked, honestly, we rarely go to any cities – and I would feel like a dork carrying a GPS to tell me to turn right at the next crosswalk. Geesh…obviously reading features on amazon.com is affecting my sleep thoughts!
I would love to hear your feedback...pros and cons of the system you have. Thanks!

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
everyone in my family had bought different versions of Tom Toms... we have been happy with them, quality, cost, etc... if you are not as tech savvy, I'd go with a basic version though (I have used a few versions and sometimes they can be a pain until you get used to them) I love being able to program all my crop locations/stores into it and feel safe when traveling! my nice likes to use the voice with the Frence accent while my son likes the guy that sounds like a redneck :-D they have whatever you want :winkb:

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
Rita,

I HATE GPS'! My husband and one of his cousins has a Garmin. I hate Garmin's voice, really annoying!!!! Even with the newest models no one can get to my Angleton home, lol. I've given directions to four people and they all had to be guided in either by phone or going and getting one individual who got so lost it was crazy. The last one which I had to go get refused to listen to me and get the written directions. Loved the 'I told you so moment!' Actually I didn't rub it in!

I dislike them because they may give you the shortest route mileage wise, but always longest in time. Or like one time my husband insisted on using the GPS, and I got us back home 30 minutes faster.

But the real reason I don't like them is I have a built in GPS in the brain. If someone gives me directions to their house, the map automatically gets built in my head and I drive straight there. And now I have the coolest map of Texas, that I can get to anywhere within a few feet!

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
I bought this Garmin for DH for Christmas ($173). He's the most directionally challenged man I know!

He loves it. I personally wouldn't totally rely on it. I like to know exactly where I'm headed before I'm going so I like BING maps & directions. What I do like it for is if you get lost or have to take a detour it recalculates and redirects you. We've been in the situation more than once and it was a lifesaver.

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
I would have to recommend the "chris chris"....which is me. I'm pretty good at getting to places in the shortest amount of time; which comes in handy because my darling, loving, sweet, and MAJORLY DIRECTIONALLY CHALLENGED husband is VERY good at getting us lost.

As far as an actual GPS, I have no clue. Our car has a GPS built into it and we have a GPS on our phones. But I still rule!

I have a TOMTOM GO 730 and I am thrilled with it. I've had it for a couple months and I find it easy to use and so far accurate.

We had a Mio and it was ok for the 1st couple years, then it just seemed to be in-accurate around here (PA).

This is what I have. It's actually my second TOMTOM. The first died on me after having it for three years, and no-one could tell me why.

Anyway, I will generally check on Bing first to make sure I have an idea of where I should be going. I find that sometimes TT will take me in a direction that I know will not be time effective - like on a major highway during rush hour. So I will go the backway/cross-country, and it will adjust accordingly. that part is absolutely awesome in preventing me from getting lost.

I also love it cause on long trips I have an estimated time of arrival, based on my speed and such.

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
I've used a Garmin nuvi a couple times, and honestly wanted to throw the friggin thing out the window almost every time we got in the car. It didn't start right, lost directions halfway through the trip (when it shouldn't have, it was suburbia), and refused to acquire satellite signal, no matter what we did to it. Same thing happend to a friend of mine who also has a Nuvi - they ended up sending it back to the company to have it fixed. From my minimal experience with GPS, I would NOT recommend a Garmin (unless they've somehow improved dramatically)... :? :waiting:

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
i always borrow my dads. his is a garmin. what i LOVE about his, is that it doesn't matter where we are traveling, if we need a wal-mart or park we can easily reroute using the search function (it always tells us how many miles away they are in comparasion to where we are). it then saves the other route and returns us to our destination with out an issue.

Yep, TT does that too. But usually, I'm looking for a Starbucks or McD's or Sonic or such.

It also keeps a record of my most recent trips. So if I'm returning to a client that I visited say two weeks ago, and I'm still not sure of the path, I can pull it up from the recent list, rather than programming again.

We have two garmin nuvi's and love them. No problems at all.

I'd recommend the 255W or 265W. The "W" stands for widescreen, and I think it makes a difference. You can change the voices on them as well.

Re: Can you recommend a GPS?
Do you have a cell phone? I would check w/your cell phone provider and see what they offer. I have had GPS systems in the past and they were ok. They change so often...Now I do my GPS through Verizon and it is the best thing. No updating or anything. $10 per month. Not bad:)
