1961 Road Trip
by EyesForBeautyJul 18, 2013
"Road Trip", a new kit by Hot Flash Designs, has just the right stuff to go with photos like these which my late father took with his 35mm slide film camera while we were on a family vacation in 1961. I modeled my layout using one I had seen in the Gallery here at ACOT (Hike #40 by koala1966 www.acherryontop.com/gallery/favorites/175043-hike-%2340---merritt-island-national-wildlife-refuge).
I had a lot of fun selecting and arranging the cute and colorful embellishments. I did change a few of them slightly, such as adding a different overlay color to the map paper (to go with the photos); changing the hair colors of the "mom" and "daughter" elements to match our family's (Mom was brunette, I was strawberry blonde, one sis red haired, and the other brunette); I even changed the color of the car element to match ours--pale golden yellow! I punched out the windows so I could put the three daughter elements inside and peaking out. And I made changes to several others as well: suitcase warped, "dad" element stretched, shadow added to underside of cloud, added sticker effect stroke outline.
The text of my journal reads: "I had just turned thirteen the summer we went on a road trip from Indiana to Colorado. We had seen the Grand Tetons Mountains in WY briefly in 1958, on our trip to visit Dad’s family in WA state, and were in awe of them. Our trip this year was only about sightseeing and our destination was Rocky Mountain National Park. We stopped to see quite a few other sights along the way as well. These are only a few of the many slide film photos that Dad took on that long ago trip". TFL
