Family Story Two Sisters

by scrapscotJan 7, 2018
The story of two sisters (one adopted out when she was an infant) and how they found each other.
A STORY OF TWO SISTERS
It started out with this message I received on Ancestry.com on August 18, 2014

Aug 19, 2014
"This may be a long shot, but I'm going to go ahead and go with my gut. Hello! My name is Erin and I am trying to help my mother in her search for information about her family. She was born on March 7, 1957 and adopted out of King County Hospital in Seattle. We recently received her original birth certificate in the mail and the mother's name on the birth certificate was Rita Clark and her birth place was St. Paul, MN. Now this may be a long stretch, but according to ancestry.com, a census record shows that Rita had two sisters named Shirley and Sharon. I see your family tree has both a Shirley and a Sharon listed and I am just hoping that you might be Rita or you know Rita or something about her. I'm so sorry if this is really forward, or not the right way to do this, but I've been praying that God would give my mom some answers. Anyways, if you don't know anything about what I'm talking about, I'm sorry for the invasion. Hope all is well in Arlington! I hear its getting pretty hot!

Thanks so much,"
I replied:

"Erin, I am neither Shirley or Sharon but one of my cousins Lisa Gilikson may be able to help you more as her mother was Sharan Ann Clark. I have sent her a note on Facebook and as soon as I hear from her I'll let you know. The 3 girls were daughters of my Uncle Ray and I don't know much about them"
After I heard from Lisa, I contacted Erin again with the news that one daughter, Rita had several children, at least 2 of them were adopted. Lisa was in contact with the youngest, Cheryl Ann. A few days later, Lisa contacted me that she had talked to Erin and then went to Cheryl Ann's house and told her all she knew. Cheryl Ann talked to Marcena and the evidence came to light that Rita is Marcena's biological mother. One thing led to another and Marcena was able to make the trip from Denton, TX to the west coast where she met Cheryl Ann, Rita and another sister. Marcena's brother (also adopted) also made a trip out west to meet Cheryl Ann.
After a divorce a couple years later, Marcena moved from Denton to Seattle, Washington. She is now closer to her daughter Erin and granddaughter and to her new-found sister. She and Cheryl Ann are like (as Michael puts it) two peas in pod.
I have still not met my cousins, Lisa, Marcena and Cheryl Ann, but Michael and I did manager our own "reunion" at a local Denny's when he came to Arlington. Hopefully I will meet the others one day.
