Journaling: The Vereins Kirche (Society Church) was built in 1847 in the German style known as "Carolingian Octogon" & was the 1st public building in town. It served as a town hall, school, fort & church for all denominations. Torn down in 1897 due to disuse & disrepair, a replica was built in 1935 in time for the 1936 Texas Centennial. Today it houses exhibits depicting the town's history.
