I used the (sadly discontinued) Prima Hexagon shadow box as a starting point, removing several of the dividers to create more interesting areas for decoration. The entire box, inside and out, is painted, collaged, crackled, inked and washi taped. Then I added various distressed dolls, charms, metal embellishments and bottles.
