For the February Pet Challenge - Pink or Red, Hearts or Doily, and Love or XOXO. Also for the Movie Genre Challenge - movie title #79 "Red". This is the story of when we got Skylar. The title "Red" was perfect because she was the puppy with the red ribbon in her litter. This spread is for her puppy album. Lots and lots of journaling and pics and email correspondences between me and her breeder.
Journaling:
We waited a long time for Sky. We wanted a black female, and each time Debbie had an upcoming litter for us, it didn’t come to be. While we were still waiting for another litter that was due in December, in November a litter was born that bore 3 black female puppies. Most of the puppies in this litter were designated to go to show homes. When the December litter bore only males, Debbie said that since we had waited so long for a black female she was going to let us have one of the black females from the November 19th litter. She was keeping one of the three females for herself for showing and breeding, so we didn’t know which of the puppies we would be getting until Debbie made her choice, which wouldn’t be until they were seven or 8 weeks old. Since we didn’t originally know that we were going to be getting a puppy from this litter, we don’t have any pictures of the litter when it was born and or when they were very little and had their color-coded ribbons on. We just knew the three females were Red, Yellow, and Green, and that one of them would be ours.
When the puppies were around seven weeks old, we went over to visit them. We would have been able to have gone sooner had I not have been sick with bronchitis. So on January 9th we went over to Debbie’s and we sat on the floor with the 3 black females and their mom, True. We had so much fun with them, and even though we didn’t know which one would be ours we would have taken any one of them. They were so fun and so adorable and were all over the place, and it was so cute when they all went over to nurse on their mom.
On January 18th we went to pick up our little girl. Debbie said that the choice was very hard as to which one she was going to keep, as all three of the females would be great show dogs. As it was I don’t think she even made her decision until shortly before we got there to pick her up. It turned out that our girl was Red, and Debbie showed us pics of her when she was staging her to make her choice. We played on the floor with her for a while and then Debbie took a picture of us holding her before we took her home. Debbie sent us the pictures that she showed us, and they are the only pictures we have of Sky before the day she came home where we actually know it is her.
We had everything ready for her at home and already had her name picked out, as we knew we were going to name her Skylar and call her Sky. And as a tribute to Boomer, since we had given him the registered name of Midnight Thunder, we gave Sky the registered name of Midnight Sky. We were so excited to take her home!
