Sher’s Shimelle’s Journaling NSD 2026 challenge
I don’t know what to call this yet. The journaling reads (and sorry if it’s a little somber):
These photos make me feel both sad and grateful - though I think more sad: These are photos of parts of mom’s room at Sunrise (assisted living). The last is a view from her bed - which she often (mistakenly) keeps texting me. [context: she’s forgetting how to use her cell phone and spends more time fiddling with it than using it as a phone, resulting in multiple nonsensical texts throughout the day.] What makes me so sad is thinking of how much her life has changed in the last year - losing my dad; moving out of her 1600 sq ft home [into a tiny room with a tiny kitchenette and tiny bathroom] so suddenly; losing touch with all her memories, precious items collected over the years; and her independence. And, for me, I’m losing my mom little by little as her memory keeps deteriorating. BUT I’m also grateful. The timing and way she had to move was a prayer answered. She’s safe, she’s cared for, and she is loved by old and new friends.
The photos still make me sad. So much has changed in one short year. I admire her so much, She is still feisty, still funny, still trying. And she’s still my mom.
