After a couple of years of mismanagement, Green Door - a 41 year-old nonprofit community mental health services organization finally had no choice but to close its doors. As staff packed up and gathered for several parties, I visited my former colleagues and celebrated what we had accomplished over the years. When I was working there, I remember how very humbled I was - like, the the time one (kinda intimidating) guy broke down when I gave him a box of gently used household products. He hadn’t had a home in years and was so grateful to receive not only his housing voucher but help furnishing his new digs. It was truly a privilege to serve as the development director for 7 years and help raise funds that directly impacted the community members we served.
