Our Cat

Marmalade
by EyesForBeautyMay 10, 2009
This rather simple design was also inspired by the May Ad Inspiration Challenge (or, more accurately, Mommybruno's excellent interpretation of that ad) but then I decided to go with the Digi Techniques Challenge instead. I had experimented with and tried learning the different PS filtering techniques and wanted to use them in a comic strip collage--like Janello's very cute "the Red Ranger", 5/1--but, lacking an active 7-yr-old and not enough action shots to make that work I decided to do something simpler with our cat. I used "posterize" with 6 color levels from the image adjustment menu, not "poster edges" from the filter menu, then added the pixelated gray halftone overlay (same as Janello described); I also used a clipping mask for the stamp edges, and textured pattern overlays for the color block backgrounds. I think these digital adjustments give the photos much more punch than they had before and I am happy with the way the composition came togther. TFL
