For Twinkie & Sky's ABC album. W is for Walks.
Journaling:
Block #1
Twinkie and Sky love going for walks. We enjoy walking the neighborhood, and I never play my music when I walk with them, I just enjoy the quiet peacefulness of us walking together. Twinkie likes to be on the outside, and when they do get mixed up she will always make her way back to the left of Sky. I talk to them while we are walking, and I teach them words like “turn” when we are making a turn, or “hurry” when we cross a road. They know where home is, as I have taught them by first always saying “we are home” and repeating “home” as we go up our driveway, and then after that having them “find” home, giving them slack in the leash. They now definitely know where home is as they will turn at our driveway when we get to our house. We really always have had a great time walking together.
Block #2
Unfortunately, lately they have not walked well with me at all. Ever since we lost their daddy, they are not behaving on walks and will pull me when they see another dog. They have always gotten excited when we see another dog on our path, but as much as they wanted to go to it they would listen to me to “keep walking nice” and to “leave it”, and also to just plain “NO”. But one time recently they didn’t listen and pulled me to the ground to go to a man that had two little poodles. They didn’t listen, and they are so powerful, especially together, that I just had no control over them and I had to let go of their leashes as I hit the pavement. I have not walked with them since, as even going to the vet together now has proved to be a disaster. I even tried getting “no pull” harnesses for them, but that didn’t work. I miss walking with them so much, and I really aim to see if I can get them back in line so we can walk together again. We love our fall walks, and I hope I can get them back to walking nice with me by then. As it is now we have not walked together in many months. - Summer 2022

So cute that your dog likes to be on the outside, and so sorry that you haven't been able to walk with them. My 9yo dog still pulls us when she wants to see certain dogs...but there are some that she couldn't care less about!
