Travels with Mommy - Poland

by Sandi770Mar 23, 2009
NOTES: This was a sad layout, and an extremely difficult layout for me to do (my sister requested it). It had to be about this trip she took with her baby, Alece, but they went to Poland to see friends and also visited Auschwitz while they were there. It was hard to make a pretty layout, but also incorporate a horrible subject matter somewhere on the pages.

Journaling:
This is our exciting, but cold, trip to Poland with Laura in November 2005.

Laura took care of all the travel details, and the friendly owner of our youth hostel ended up also being our chauffeur and sight-seeing guide. The snow and dreariness of the weather made Auschwitz that much more sobering to see.

Funny memory... as we were trying to catch a Taxi from the train station to the airport, I had to pull an “amazing race” moment and began to bargain (quite loudly) with the Taxi drivers who weren’t willing to take us 5 km for anything less than 30 Euros. We honestly did not have more than 10 Euros in our pocket and finally found a reluctant driver to agree. And all this without speaking the same language! ~

Hidden Journaling: – Under “Aushwitz” Tag
(1) “Work Frees” (the gate at Auschwitz concentration camp)
(2) Auschwitz
(3) Actual train car that carried people to the camp
(4) The furnaces that now stand as memorials to the horrific past.
(5) The eerie tracks where the trains unloaded...men to the right, women to the left.

I know what you mean. I have pics of a trip to the Dachau concentration camp that I've never been able to scrap. Nice job.

Wow - I think you did an amazing job! The stark contrast of the b&w pics plus the torn corner set the Auschwitz section apart very well.
