This "Sketch This Contest" page highlights a family trip to New York City where we took a ride on the Staten Island Ferry to capture a great photo of the Statue of Liberty. The great-great grandparents of the three-year old boy in the photo came through Ellis Island in the early 1920s and talked about seeing to Statue of Liberty and knowing they finally made it to America after leaving life as they knew it to escape from the Nazis. The journaling circle reminds the young boy never to forget the sacrifices made by his ancestors who gave him the opportunity to live in America. One of my favorite pieces of the page is the line down the side of the photo (Deja View Little Yellow Bicycle sticker) that appropriately reads "Capture the Moment Before It Fades".
